%X El presente trabajo constituye una investigaci車n sobre las representaciones y roles sociales que transmite la prensa espa ola acerca de la mujer y de su papel en todos los 芍mbitos. A trav谷s de unan芍lisis cuantitativo y cualitativo de las noticias publicadas durante los tres primeros meses de 2009 en las primeras p芍ginas de dos diarios nacionales, uno gratuito y siete regionales, se indaga en las tem芍ticas en las que aparece la mujer, su vinculaci車n con otros actores sociales y el tipo de protagonismoque le otorgan en las unidades informativas. Adem芍s, la investigaci車n valora la ubicaci車n de la noticia en la portada seg迆n los par芍metros de extensi車n, acompa amiento gr芍fico y posici車n en la p芍gina en comparaci車n con otras noticias.The present article is an investigation about representations and social roles that Spanish press transmits about women and their role in all fields. Through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of news published during the first quarter of 2009 on the front page of two national newspapers, a free newspaper and seven local newspapers, the authors investigate themes in which women appear, their links with other social actors and the kind of prominence that newspapers grant them. As well, the investigation values the position of the piece of new in the front page according to extension, graphicalaccompaniment and position on the page compared to other news
