%X The paradigm of Sustainable Development was founded in 1983, in the Brundtland report as a necessity of serious environmental problems facing the planet dominant product of positive development for almost 200 years. Sustainable Development is leading the way for new ways of relating to man and environment production; the promotion of education in environmental matters will lead to a change of attitude to environmental conservation and awareness to generate alternatives to environmental problems. The individual and the community must become subjects of social concern, involved in solving the problems, proposing sustainable alternatives in their implementation, enabling a shift towards a positive attitude towards environmental conservation. This is a documental research which identifies the key elements of sustainable development theory and the usefulness of environmental education programs as an alternative to solving environmental problems in the institutions of higher education, and within communities nearby. Its importance is focused on promoting interest in higher education communities, the creation, implementation, implementation and evaluation of environmental education programs as a sustainable alternative in solving their problems. El paradigma del Desarrollo Sustentable nace en el a o de 1983 dentro del informe Brundtland como una necesidad de los graves problemas ambientales que aquejan al planeta producto del desarrollismo positivista dominante desde hace casi 200 a os. El Desarrollo Sustentable esta marcando el rumbo de las nuevas formas de relacionarse el hombre, la producci車n y el ambiente; el fomento de la educaci車n en materia de medio ambiente conllevar芍 a un cambio de actitud para la conservaci車n ambiental, y a la toma de conciencia para generar alternativas a los problemas ambientales. El individuo y la comunidad deben convertirse en sujetos de preocupaci車n social, participativos en la soluci車n de los problemas, proponiendo alternativas sustentables en la ejecuci車n de los mismos, posibilitando un cambio hacia una actitud positiva frente a la conservaci車n del medio ambiente. Esta es una investigaci車n documental donde se identifican los elementos fundamentales de la teor赤a del Desarrollo Sustentable y la utilidad de los Programas Educativos Ambientales como alternativa a la soluci車n de las problem芍ticas ambientales presentes en las instituciones de educaci車n superior y dentro de las comunidades aleda as.
