Mareco %A Christiane da Cruz Maracci %J Colloquium Humanarum %D 2010 %I University of Western Sao Paulo, UNOESTE %R 10.5747/ch.2010.v07.n01.h072 %X This article aims at demonstrating the possibility of effective application of corpus linguistic to the practice of English for specific purposes teaching, considering the unavailability of specific software and computer resources in most classrooms. Thus, seven activities were applied to a group of five adult students, professionals and students of the area of geography, with pre-intermediate level of English. These activities were divided into two classes, with duration of ninety minutes each and were taught in their mother tongue. At the end of the two classes, it was found that all students did the seven activities without difficulty, demonstrating the applicability of the corpus linguistics in a classroom without computer resources and the effectiveness of the proposed activities. This effectiveness was due to the use of authentic texts of the students¡¯ working field, which made the classes more reliable. %K English language %K ESP %K lexical approach %U dx.doi.org/10.5747/ch.2010.v07.n01.h072
