%X This essay aims to discuss relations between the historical imagination (KRAMER, 1992; BANN,1994; WHITE, 2001) and visual history (MENEZES, 2003), from the use of the image as an object forthe study of history. The image on this work will be seen as visual text, taking into account the role ofimagination in narrative construction and context of relationships established from, for and by thevisual work. We examine some notions of visual culture (HALL 1996; HERN芍NDEZ, 2000 andMITCHELL, 2001) in relation to the story, looking for possible contributions to the field of visualarts.ResumoEste ensaio tem como objetivo discutir as rela  es entre a imagina  o hist車rica (KRAMER, 1992;BANN, 1994; WHITE, 2001) e a hist車ria visual (MENEZES, 2003), a partir do uso da imagem comoobjeto para o estudo da Hist車ria. A imagem neste trabalho ser芍 encarada como texto visual, levando-seem conta o papel da imagina  o na constru  o da narrativa e a contextualiza  o das rela  esestabelecidas a partir, para e pela obra visual. Examinamos algumas concep  es de cultura visual(HALL, 1996; HERN芍NDEZ, 2000; MITCHELL, 2001) na sua rela  o com a hist車ria, buscando asposs赤veis contribui  es para a 芍rea de artes
