%X Los metodistas tanto en Estados Unidos como en M谷xico destacaron en la lucha contra el alcoholismo; buscando la perfecci車n cristiana originaron movimientos sociales a favor de la templanza los cuales, marcados por los distintos contextos nacionales, tuvieron diferente impacto en el resto de sus sociedades. This article focuses on late 19th cen tury methodists. It stresses the fact that methodists in both the US and Mexico strove to combat alcoholism. In the quest for Christian perfection, they originated social movements in favor of temperance, whose impact on the rest of their societies differed according to their national contexts.
