%X OBJETIVO: mostrar algunos elementos te車ricos y metodol車gicos que sustentaron el proceso de perfeccionamiento, en su concepci車n macro mediante un algoritmo que se resume en 3 momentos: diagn車stico inicial, definici車n del modelo de especialista y estructura general de los contenidos necesarios. DESARROLLO: el dise o de un plan de estudios o dise o curricular est芍 en funci車n de las necesidades sociales, econ車micas y culturales de un pa赤s. La situaci車n de salud de Cuba y el mundo, los avances cient赤fico-t谷cnicos en el campo de la Higiene y Epidemiolog赤a y otras ciencias afines, exige cada vez m芍s la formaci車n de un especialista con conocimientos y destrezas esenciales para desempe arse como buen salubrista. Este elemento, unido a la necesidad estrat谷gica del sistema nacional de salud de reducir a 2 a os el tiempo de formaci車n de especialistas, fueron premisas para llevar a cabo en el 2006 un proceso de perfeccionamiento del plan de estudios de la especialidad, en virtud de saber si el curr赤culo vigente desde 1995 respond赤a a las actuales exigencias del encargo social y qu谷 cambios eran necesarios introducir en la organizaci車n de sus diferentes componentes para mantener su condici車n de pertinente. CONCLUSIONES: se realizan consideraciones finales en relaci車n al cumplimiento del dise o, al encargo social y a la concepci車n sist谷mica de los componentes del plan de estudios. AIM: to show some theoretical and methodological aspects supporting the improvement process in its macro-conception by means of an algorithm summarized in three stages: early diagnosis, definition of the specialist model, and general structure of the necessary contents. DEVELOPMENT: the design of a curriculum or the curricular design depends on the social, economic, and cultural needs of a country. The situation of health in Cuba and in the world, and the scientific-technical advances in the Hygiene and Epidemiology field and in other related sciences, increasingly demand the training of a specialist with essential knowledge and skills to fulfill his duties as a good health worker. This element, together with the strategic need of the health national system to reduce in 2 years the training period of the specialists, were the premises to carry out in 2006 an improvement process of the curriculum of the specialty to know if the present curriculum used since 1995 meets the current requirements of the social task and which changes need to be introduced in the organization of its different components to maintain its condition as pertinent.
