%X The pit-house as shelter accompanies the history of mankind. Because of their simplicity, these houses were used from the start of house building till recent time, in vernacular dwelling constructions. During excavations, remains of several pit-houses was earted. These houses form can be distinguished in two main types. One type has circular- and the another square-shaped layout. Unfortunately none of the upper part of these houses survived the centuries; only some of the parts below ground level remained recognizable. But the location of the underground remains of the original wooden structure, supporting the roof, survived in some cases. In this paper, we reconstruct these pit-houses, based on these discoveries from the excavations. During reconstruction, the vernacular architecture of our ancestor is also considered. We show, that the circular-shaped layout is earlier than the squar-shaped, which has technological reason. In this context, we present a critical view on the earlier concept of pit house construction.
