%X The purpose of this study was to investigate the possible antioxidant effect of metformin in high fructose fed diet-induced diabetic rats. The increased level of lipidperoxidation and altered levels ofenzymatic and non enzymatic antioxidants were seen in high fructose fed consumed animals. The administration of metformin significantly normalized the altered levels of lipid peroxidation and antioxidantstatus. In conclusion, this study indicates that the administration of metformin improves antioxidant status by reducing lipidperoxidation and enhancing the antioxidant enzymes activities in liver of diabetic rats.
