%X Although identified among the elements constituting the wider public opinion of nationaland international scale, the local public opinion of the people living in a particular region has it¡¯sown local scope and attributes. Within this regional frame that produces the local public opinion,local newspapers are appearing as determining organs in the local public opinion formationprocess. To evaluate this role of the local press on local opinion, a survey on the sample ofTrabzon has been conducted in the city center on 300 subjects by simple causal sampling. As aresult, it has been found that the great majority of the subjects (%92) was regarding the localpress as an information source and that another important part (%58) was appraising the localnewspapers as ¡°influential¡± on the formation of a shared opinion.
