%X Deux th¨¨ses r¨¦centes d¡¯arch¨¦ologie ont ¨¦t¨¦ engag¨¦es sur la compr¨¦hension du sol urbain de Tours et men¨¦es dans le cadre des recherches arch¨¦ologiques d¨¦velopp¨¦es depuis une quarantaine d¡¯ann¨¦es. Elles ont port¨¦ plus particuli¨¨rement sur l¡¯analyse des caract¨¦ristiques et des principes d¡¯exhaussement du sol urbain, correspondant ¨¤ l¡¯ensemble du d¨¦p t arch¨¦ologique de la ville.Ces travaux ont concern¨¦ deux ¨¦chelles compl¨¦mentaires traditionnellement employ¨¦es en arch¨¦ologie urbaine : l¡¯¨¦valuation, ¨¤ l¡¯¨¦chelle de la ville, et la caract¨¦risation, ¨¤ l¡¯¨¦chelle du site. Fond¨¦es sur l¡¯utilisation d¡¯outils issus des Sciences de la Terre et appliqu¨¦s dans une probl¨¦matique d¡¯histoire de la ville, deux nouvelles approches de la stratification des villes pr¨¦-industrielles ont ¨¦t¨¦ d¨¦velopp¨¦es, la premi¨¨re concernant la microarch¨¦ologie, la seconde, la g¨¦otechnique appliqu¨¦e au d¨¦p t arch¨¦ologique.Men¨¦es conjointement, les deux ¨¦tudes pr¨¦sentent un double int¨¦r¨ºt : le premier, d¡¯ordre g¨¦n¨¦ral, concerne la mise en  uvre d¡¯une m¨¦thodologie applicable ¨¤ tout ph¨¦nom¨¨ne urbain, en particulier par la cr¨¦ation d¡¯un r¨¦f¨¦rentiel commun des strates arch¨¦ologiques, permettant de caract¨¦riser des d¨¦p ts ind¨¦termin¨¦s ; le second int¨¦r¨ºt, plus ponctuel, concerne l¡¯application de ces principes g¨¦n¨¦raux ¨¤ un cas particulier de formation du sol urbain, celui de Tours. La mod¨¦lisation des r¨¦sultats ¨¤ l¡¯¨¦chelle de la ville implique que l¡¯acquisition des donn¨¦es sur le terrain int¨¨gre une probl¨¦matique historique et topographique. Two recent archaeological theses have been involved with the understanding of the urban archaeology of Tours and conducted as part of the archaeological research developed over a 40-year period. They particularly cover the analysis of the characteristics and principles of the raising of urban land, corresponding to the entire archaeological deposits of a city.These works concerned two complementary scales traditionally employed in urban archaeology: evaluation, on the scale of the city, and characterisation, on the scale of the site. Based on the use of tools from earth science and applied to a problematic city history, two new approaches to pre-industrial city stratigraphy have been developed, the first concerning micro-archaeology, the second, geotechnics applied to the archaeological deposits.Conducted jointly, these two studies are doubly interesting: first, of a general nature, concerning the implementation of a methodology applicable to all urban phenomena, in particular by the creation of a common frame of reference for archaeological stratum, enabling u
