%X In the perspective of the Romania¡¯s integration in the European Union, the elaboration of the local public services¡¯ sustainable development strategy is of high importance. Municipal services are part of the common values of the EU members and constitute a pillar of the European society model. Most of them are provided by public utilities. The organization, setting up and functioning procedures, as well as the level of local authorities¡¯ control are different from one country to another. Unified procedures are now under development at European Commission level. In Romania, the local authorities are charged to provide the municipal services, according to the law. From legal point of view, most of the operators are autonomous regains or commercial companies. The population¡¯s access to these services is yet quite limited and their quality is often poor. In this respect, Romania¡¯s integration in the EU will require important efforts, including the concepts¡¯ harmonization.
