%X vascular. Su empleo, cada vez m¨¢s frecuente, permite realizar diagn¨®sticos m¨¢s precoces, especialmente en patolog¨ªas arteriales, disminuyendo riesgos, costos y tiempo. Debido a que la ruptura de aneurismas de la aorta abdominal contin¨²a siendo una entidad de alta mortalidad, en especial en pacientes mayores de 65 a os, resulta particularmente ¨²til contar con un m¨¦todo que permita detectar esos aneurismas en forma temprana y realizar su manejo antes de que ocurra esta cat¨¢strofe vascular. Al respecto, presentamos nuestra experiencia en un estudio piloto realizado en veteranos de las Fuerzas Militares de Colombia, durante el mes de mayo de 2006 y en el cual se demostr¨® la utilidad del esc¨¢ner d¨²plex a color para la detecci¨®n, en forma temprana, de aneurismas de la aorta abdominal con ausencia de s¨ªntomas y signos cl¨ªnicos y sus ventajas respecto a su aplicaci¨®n masiva por el tiempo requerido por examen, costos, sensibilidad y baja morbimortalidad Non invasive diagnostic methods like color scan duplex are gaining and important roll for vascular surgeons. With this method we can make an earlier diagnosis, especially in arterial pathology, lowering risk, costs and time for treatment. Because the ruptures of the aortic abdominal aneurism have a high mortality in patients of 80 years or more, it is important to detect this pathology and make its treatment before it ruptures. We show our experience in a pilot study with a veteran population from the Colombian Military Forces, during the month of May of the 2006. We demonstrate the utility of color duplex scanner for a screening test for the early detection abdominal aneurisms (without symptoms or signs) and we also demonstrate a high cost/benefit ratio to lower morbility and mortality.
