Sixty consecutive patients with stroke were analyzed for fasting lipid profile values. Highly significant alteration in LDL-cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol and serum triglyceride was observed in patients with stroke. No significant alteration was noted in total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol. Low HDL cholesterol values were more frequently observed in normotensive stroke patients. Non HDL cholesterol, a marker for atherogenic activity was high in both ischemic as well as haemorrhagic stroke. Estimation of LDL cholesterol, non-HDL cholesterol and triglycerides is recommended in patients with stroke. %U http://www.annalsofian.org/article.asp?issn=0972-2327;year=2005;volume=8;issue=3;spage=133;epage=138;aulast=Thacker;type=0
