Methodology: this is a literature review. The articles were selected through the title and abstract, checking their suitability to the theme proposed in this study. Held reading and rereading the articles and books found, allowing reflection on the meanings attributed to the hospital accreditation. Results: Florence Nightingale deployed the first model of continuous quality improvement in health. The first edition of the Brazilian Manual of Accreditation was manufactured in 1998, this has been improving culminating with the release of the latest edition published in 2006 in a sample that has seven volumes. We see this approach to study the history of the first Brazilian Manual of overlaps with the emergence of the ONA, so that part of the common goal. Conclusion: believe that qualifying is paramount in the pursuit of excellence in service which is the essence of caring, building trust and good reputation so important to the pursuit of customers become increasingly demanding about the quality of their lives. %K hospital accreditation %K health service %K quality %K hospital administration. %U http://www.ufpe.br/revistaenfermagem/index.php/revista/article/view/927/pdf_102
