%X O presente texto tem como objetivo apresentar a descri  o dos processos referenciais 每 semanticos, pragm芍ticos e cognitivos 每 por meio dos quais as descri  es definidas com artigo definido (DDs) interpretam a definitude na refer那ncia textualdiscursiva.Para esse empreendimento, construiu-se um dispositivo te車rico-anal赤tico que responde: pela natureza designativa das DDs no que se refere 角s propriedades concreta e abstrata; pelas opera  es de referencia  o: retomada, remiss o e constru  o referencial; epelas fontes cognitivas e pragm芍tico-discursivas que concorrem para o estabelecimento dos fundamentos da definitude interpretada por uma DD. No escopo do artigo em tela, apresenta-se a descri  o referencial de um corpus constitu赤do de 207 DDs de um texto de literatura orat車ria. Com base nos dados quantitativos 每 140 DDs (67,6%) erigidas do arquivo ativo 每 a principal proposi  o 谷 que a definitude de uma express o definida n o 谷 aprioristicante estabelecida, mas constr車i-se no bojo da discursiviza  o. The description of referential processes 每 semantic, pragmatic and cognitive 每 is provided. Descriptions defined by the definite article interpret the definiteness in the textual and discursive reference. A theoretical and analytic apparatus is thus constructed that accountsfor the designative nature of definite descriptions with regard to their concrete/abstract qualities; with referentiating operations, or rather, referential retrieval, remission and construction; with cognitive and pragmatic and discursive sources that establish the bases of definiteness interpreted by a definite description. The referential description of a corpus of 207 definite descriptions taken from a text in rhetorical literature is provided. The mainpremise, based on quantitative data with 140 definite descriptions (67.6%) from the active archive, is that the definiteness of a definite expression is not a priori established, but is builtwithin the inner core of discursiveness.
