%X O artigo discute as principais contribui  es de Talcott Parsons para opensamento sociol¨®gico contemporaneo, destacando as significativas diferen as existentes entre o seu estrutural-funcionalismo e as abordagens cl¨¢ssicas eur op¨¦ias do s¨¦culo XIX. Pretende-se argumentar que, diferentemente das abordagens funcionalistas tradicionais, como a de ¨¦mile Durkheim, a sociologia estrutural-funcionalista parsoniana introduz um importante elemento voluntarista que rompe com a r¨ªgida determina  o da estrutura sobre as individualidades na constitui  o do social . This article discusses Talcott Parsons's main co ntributions for the contemporary sociological thought, emphasizing the significant differences between structural -functionalism and the Europeanclassical approaches of the XIX century. The aim is to argue that, differently from the classical functionalist approaches, such as the one of Emile Durkheim, the parsonian structural - functionalism sociology introduces an important voluntarist element that breaks the rigid determination of the structure upon the individualities in the constitution of the social.
