%X A principal estrat¨¦gia para evitar as complica  es da hipertens o baseia-se nos tratamento medicamentoso e n o medicamentoso. Por¨¦m o ¨ºxito ou fracasso terap¨ºutico depende da ades o que, por sua vez, consiste no principal desafio. Por este motivo objetivou-se analisar a ades o ao tratamento medicamentoso e n o medicamentoso por idosos hipertensos. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, com 25 pacientes acima de 60 anos de idade, atendidos por uma unidade de b¨¢sica de sa¨²de em 2008, na cidade de Jo o Pessoa, Estado da Para¨ªba. Com rela  o ¨¤ ades o medicamentosa, 12 pacientes referem fazer uso correto da medica  o prescrita, enquanto 13 deixaram de us¨¢-la. Dentre os principais motivos para a n o ades o ao tratamento medicamentoso, estavam o esquecimento (10), a aus¨ºncia de sintomas (8) e a desmotiva  o (7), dentre outros. Considerando as vari¨¢veis n o-medicamentosas, obteve-se o resultado de que apenas quatro foram considerados aderentes; 19 mostraram-se parcialmente aderentes e apenas 8% revelaram-se n o aderentes. Quanto ¨¤s dificuldades para seguir o tratamento, 12 dos entrevistados relataram seguir a dieta e as mudan as no estilo de vida. Os resultados obtidos indicam baixa ades o ao tratamento anti-hipertensivo e sugerem a implanta  o de estrat¨¦gias que facilitem uma melhor ades o ¨¤s medidas de controle da hipertens o. The principal strategy to avoid the complications of the high blood pressure is based on the medicamental treatment and not medicamentally. However the result or therapeutic failure depends on the adhesion that for his time consists of the principal challenge. Aimed analyze the adhesion to the medicamental treatment and not medicamentally for old with arterial high blood pressure. Study of thedescriptive, where 25 patients above 60 years in the unity of health, in 2008, in Jo o Pessoa, Para¨ªba State.
