%X Se consideran los hechos que justifican los procesos de reforma sanitaria en Am谷rica Latina y el Caribe, sus fuentes te車ricas, la forma en que se desarrollan, y los problemas que enfrentan. Las caracter赤sticas esenciales de la reforma de salud en Colombia, Chile, M谷xico y Venezuela son descritas. Se realiza una reflexi車n final respecto a la contradictoria situaci車n prevaleciente donde, por un lado, las reformas sanitarias persiguen proporcionar servicios de salud a grandes masas de poblaci車n carentes de estos servicios, consecuencia de las iniquidades existentes, y por otra parte, las pol赤ticas en las que estas reformas se sustentan han sido una continuaci車n de las pol赤ticas de ajustes responsables de exacerbar las iniquidades sociales en Am谷rica Latina. The facts justifying the health reform processes in Latin America and the Caribbean, their theoretical sources, the way they are developed, and the problems they face are considered in this paper. The esencial characteristics of the health reforms in Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela are described. A final reflection is made regarding the contradictory situation, where, on one hand, the health reforms are aimed at rendering health services to large masses of the population lacking these services due to the existing iniquities, and, on the other hand, the policies on which these reforms are sustained have been a continuation of the adjustment policies that exacerbate the social injusticies in Latin America.
