%X Se estudiaron 562 historias cl¨ªnicas de pacientes intervenidos quir¨²rgicamente por hernia discal lumbar en el Hospital Militar Docente "Carlos J. Finaly" en el per¨ªodo de enero de 1988 a marzo de 1997. El tiempo de evoluci¨®n de los s¨ªntomas antes de ser intervenidos quir¨²rgicamente fue mayor de 3 meses y predomin¨® en ellos el dolor lumboci¨¢tico. Al examen f¨ªsico el signo de Las¨¦gue estuvo presente en el 90,6 % seguido por el Bragard con el 79,9 %. La disfunci¨®n del reflejo aqu¨ªleo predomin¨® sobre el rotuliano con el 48 y 7,3 % respectivamente. L4 -L5 fue el espacio discal m¨¢s afectado, su frecuencia mayor fue comprendida entre 30 y 39 a os. Con operaciones precoces se obtuvieron mejores resultados evolutivos posoperatorios, al igual que donde se encontr¨® la presencia de discos extruidos. The medical histories of 562 patients operated on of lumbar disc herniation at the  Carlos J. Finlay  Military Teaching Hospital from January, 1988 to March, 1997, were studied. The time of evolution of the symptone before the surgical procedure was of over 3 menths and the lumbo-sciatic pain prevailed among them. On physial examination, Las¨¦gue¡¯s sign was present in 90.6 % of the patients, followed by Bragar¡¯s sign with 79.9 %. The dysfunction of the Achilles reflex predominated over the rotular one with 48 and 7.3 %, respectively. L4-L5 was the most affected disc space. Its highest frequency was observed in those aged 30-39. Better postoperative evolutive results were obtained when early operations were performed, as well as in those cases with extruded discs.
