%X Los inhaladores de polvo seco (IPS) son dispositivos que permiten la aerolizaci車n y entrega de medicamentos para el tratamiento de las enfermedades respiratorias, sin necesidad del empleo de propelentes. Se caracterizan por ser de f芍cil manejo, port芍tiles y duraderos. Seg迆n el mecanismo de fluidizaci車n que emplean se pueden dividir en 2 clases, activos y pasivos. Se describen las caracter赤sticas del dise o de algunos de los dispositivos pasivos m芍s empleados comercialmente para la administraci車n de formulaciones de polvo para inhalaci車n. Se mencionan adem芍s, las t谷cnicas empleadas para la realizaci車n de los estudios in vitro y los resultados de algunos estudios realizados con estos dispositivos The dry powder inhalers (DPI) are devices that allow the aerosolization and delivery of medications for the treatment of respiratory diseases, without the use of propellants. They are easy handling, portable and durable. According to their fluidization mechanism they can be divided into two kinds: active and passive. The characteristics of the design of some of the most commercially used passive devices for the administration of powder formulations for inhalation are described in this paper. The techniques applied to conduct the in vitro studies, as well as the results of some studies undertaken with these devices are also mentioned
