ThePilates Method appears as a form of physical conditioning interested in providing general welfare of theindividual, and able to provide strength, flexibility and good posture. Strength training follows the same way,and furthermore provides hypertrophy, bone strengthening, increased caloric expenditure. The flexibility and abdominal resistance are physical qualities, components of health related physical fitness (HRPF), whichshould be properly trained. The aim of this study were to evaluate the influence of the Pilates Method (PIL)and strength training (ST) on abdominal endurance, flexibility, and compare the anthropometric and bodycomposition in women. The sample consisted of 20 women divided into 2 groups of 10 for each specifiedmethod. The following results were obtained for resistance abdominal (ABD), 26,9 rep (+10,2) and 30,7((+3,9); to flexibility (FLEX), 34,7 cm (+7,6) and 42,4 cm (+2,5); for body mass index (BMI), kg22,3 kg/m2(+2,6) e 23,0 kg/m2 (+2,5) and for the sum of skinfolds (SS), 138.9 mm (29.7), 148.6 mm ((35.0),respectively in the training groups MUS and PIL. We conclude that both training methods provideimprovement in abdominal muscular endurance as well as on flexibility, although the group involved withthe Pilates has demonstrated improved performance in motor skills. With regard to aspects of bodycomposition results were statistically identical. %K Flexibility %K abdominal endurance %K strength training %U http://www.seer.perspectivasonline.com.br/index.php/CBS/article/viewFile/17/6
