%X This essay details the fate of a student project for a digital libraries course from its initial development, through a grant application to make the project a reality, to its end. The Dede Korkut stories, Turkish folktales, were chosen for digitization and potential inclusion in a digital collection which was intended to benefit scholars worldwide.
