%X El objetivo de este trabajo fue elaborar una descripci¨®n detallada de Prosopis flexuosa DC. (algarrobo dulce), ¨¢rbol caracter¨ªstico de las regiones ¨¢ridas argentinas. Para su elaboraci¨®n se consultaron trabajos cl¨¢sicos sobre esta especie como as¨ª tambi¨¦n las ¨²ltimas investigaciones publicadas tanto en art¨ªculos nacionales como internacionales. La informaci¨®n obtenida abarca los siguientes temas: descripci¨®n de la especie, distribuci¨®n geogr¨¢fica, h¨¢bitat y comunidades, h¨¢bito de crecimiento y morfolog¨ªa, caracter¨ªsticas citogen¨¦ticas, crecimiento y fenolog¨ªa, ecofisiolog¨ªa e interacciones biol¨®gicas. Este trabajo finaliza con la relaci¨®n entre los pobladores que habitan los bosques y el algarrobo, por medio del manejo de bosques de Prosopis y los usos etnobot¨¢nicos que brinda esta especie desde ¨¦pocas prehisp¨¢nicas. The goal of this work was to provide a detailed description of Prosopis flexuosa DC. (algarrobo dulce), a characteristic tree of the Argentine arid regions. To do so we consulted the classic literature about this species as well as the last published papers in national and international journals. The obtained information comprises the following subjects: description of the species, geographic distribution, habitat and communities, growth habit and morphology, cytogenetic characteristics, growth and phenology, ecophysiology and biological interactions. The work ends with the relation of the woods inhabitants and the algarrobo, through the management of the Prosopis woods and the ethnobotanic uses that this species has afforded since prehispanic times.
