%X La selecci車n de publicaciones seriadas y bases de datos resulta una tarea sumamente dif赤cil, en especial, para el sector de la biomedicina, por el crecimiento acelerado de las fuentes y los medios de informaci車n en esta 芍rea del conocimiento. En tal sentido, la realizaci車n de investigaciones inform谷tricas es una tendencia actual. Dentro de ellas, los estudios de solapamiento representan una forma 迆til para determinar el grado de procesamiento que reciben las publicaciones de una tem芍tica espec赤fica en distintas bases de datos, a la vez que permiten hallar el nivel de exhaustividad que 谷stas presentan en el cubrimiento de la literatura de una rama del saber. Se exponen los fundamentos te車rico-metodol車gicos de los estudios de solapamiento, algunas formas pr芍cticas para su aplicaci車n tanto en la evaluaci車n de los t赤tulos de publicaciones seriadas como de las bases de datos, as赤 como sus principales ventajas y limitantes. Selecting serial publications and databases turns out to be a very difficult task, especially in the biomedical sector due to the accelerated increase of information sources and means in this area of knowledge. In that sense, the conducting of infommetrical researches is a current trend. Within this, overlapping studies represent an useful way to determine the degree of processing that a number of publications of an specific item receive in different databases and in turn allow to find the level of exhaustivity that these present in covering the literature of an area of knowledge. The theoretical and methodological grounds of the overlapping studies are exposed and also some practical ways for its implementation in assessing the titles of serials such as the databases, as well as its advantages and limitations.
