%0 Journal Article %T Bioactivities of Brazilian Fruits and the Antioxidant Potential of Tropical Biomes %J Food and Public Health %@ 2162-8440 %D 2013 %I %R 10.5923/j.fph.20130301.05 %X The increased consumption of fruits rich in antioxidants has been associated with reduced risk of several chronic diseases caused by oxidative stress. The biological properties of these fruits have been largely attributed to their high levels of various phenolic compounds, carotenoids and ascorbic acid. Brazil is a country with appropriate climatic conditions for growing a large number of underexploited native and exotic fruit species. This fruits have great potential to the agricultural industry and can offer a future source of income for local peoples.
