%X plasmodia are protozoa whose complex life cycle takes place in two different hosts, the vertebrate and the mosquito. the human infection produces the malaria disease. the genome sequence of plasmodium falciparum and the proteomic tools have enabled a huge advance in knowledge of the biology of this parasite. this review will focus on the recent advances in proteomic studies of plasmodium falciparum and some implications for the search of new antimalarial drugs as well as vaccines for the control of the disease.
