Choques transitórios em variáveis econ?micas
Figueirêdo, Erik Alencar de;Leite Filho, Paulo Amilton Maia;
Economia Aplicada , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-80502005000400006
Abstract: this study aims to test the existence of near unit roots and local persistence in several important variables of economic models (product market, ccapm and black-scholes' formula). it is argued that the rejection of the unit root hypothesis will not necessarily imply in accepting a stationary and ergodic behavior for the time series. in order to do that, the near unit root model developed by phillips, moon and xiao (2001) was selected and an estimation strategy was used. such strategy is described as follows: a) the df-gls test, suggested by elliott, rothenberg and stock (1996); b) optimal selection of lags used by ng and perron (2001); c) the non parametric correction for terms of perturbation non i.i.d., from the kernel smoothing. the empirical results show, for some series, a characterization of the dgp from the local persistence.
Mixed Fractional Brownian Motion, Short and Long-Term Dependence and Economic Conditions: The Case of the S&P-500 Index
C-René Dominique,Luis Eduardo Solis Rivera-Solis
International Business and Management , 2011, DOI: 10.3968/j.ibm.1923842820110302.155
Abstract: The Kolmogorov-Mandelbrot-van Ness Process is a zero mean Gaussian process indexed by the Hurst Parameter (H). When it models financial data, a controversy arises as to whether or not financial data exhibit short or long-range dependence. This paper argues that the Mixed Fractional Brownian is a more suitable tool for the purpose as it leaves no room for controversy. It is used here to model the S&P-500 Index, sampled daily over the period 1950- 2011. The main results are as follows: The S&P-500 Index is characterized by both short and long-term dependence. More explicitly, it is characterized by at least 12 distinct scaling parameters that are, ex hypothesis, determined by investors’ approach to the market. When the market is dominated by “blue-chippers” or ‘long-termists’, or when bubbles are ongoing, the index is persistent; and when the market is dominated by “contrarians”, the index jumps to anti-persistence that is a far-from-equilibrium state in which market crashes are likely to occur. Key words: Gaussian processes; Mixed fractional Brownian motion; Hurst exponent; Local self-similarity; Persistence; Anti-persistence; Definiteness of covariance functions; Dissipative dynamic systems
Bioavailability of Chlorpyrifos in Wheat Plants (Triticum aestivun)  [PDF]
Sylvia V. Copaja, Rosa Vergara, Héctor R. Bravo
Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/as.2014.58069
Abstract:

Adsorption processes of chlorpyrifos in two Chilean agro soils (Calera: C; San Esteban: SE) in relation with the bioaccumulation in wheat plants (Triticum aestivun) were studied. RP-HPLC method was developed to determine the chlorpyrifos content in soils, roots and seedling tissues. The two soils showed high adsorption capacity (C = 78%, SE = 92%). The values are not in relation with the contents of organic matter (C = 3.9% and SE = 2.0%) and clay (C = 12.7% and SE = 10.1%) determined in the soils. Persistence and mobility of chlorpyrifos in the soils were estimated from halflife values (Csoil = 23 d, SEsoil = 14 d) and the Guss index (Csoil = 0.89, SEsoil = 0.25) respectively. These values are in the range of non-leaching compounds, and suggest that there should be no pollutant in the ground water. Wheat plants grown in both soils incubated with chlorpyrifos bioaccumulate residues in roots and seedling tissues. Root tissues showed the greatest contents (C = 22.3 mg/k. f. wt; SE = 51.8 mg/kg. f. wt.). Germination and growth of wheat young plants were not inhibited for the contents in the tissues. A relation between the levels of chlorpyrifos residues in the soils and the bioaccumulation in wheat tissues was estimated from the BAI parameter. Values showed that the bioaccumulation is dependent on the residues contents in soils. These results suggest that bioavailability of chlorpyrifos in wheat plants may be a harmful pollutant for mammals if it remains stable at all growth stage of the plant. Further research should be considered to see if bioavailability in forage and/or grain can occur.

Health (Health) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/health.2015.75072
Abstract: Drug addiction is one of the current world’s hygienic, mental and social problems. There are different treatments for this illness. MMT (Methadone Maintenance Therapy) is considered as a standard and acceptable therapy for addiction; and there are many affecting factors regarding gaining success in this type of treatment. In this study, we investigated some of these factors. One of the most important issues in MMT is to keep up patient on his/her treatment till complete abstinence; therefore, it is recommended that the patient does not leave his/her therapy without discretion of the therapist. In this study, 230 patients, who began MMT, and admitted to addiction treatment centers of Yazd province were included. In this study, the survival rate in the first, third, and sixth months were evaluated as 93.9%, 63.48%, and 28.36%, respectively. It was found that following parameters are important in rate of survival during treatment: family support, gender, dose of methadone and concomitant use of morphine during treatment. Moreover, factors like level of education, marital status, age and concomitant use of methamphetamine during treatment can be effective in this regard.
HIV-1 Primarily Targets the Innate Immune System and Only Secondarily Modulates Adaptive Immune Cell Depletion  [PDF]
Lawrence M. Agius
World Journal of AIDS (WJA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/wja.2012.23029
Abstract: Persistence of HIV-1 infection allows for permissive microenvironmental conditioning in terms of contextual innate immune participation. The progression of host cell injury constitutes an additional parametric formulation in self-amplifying modulation of the adaptive immune response in a manner that inclusively promotes the emergence of a final stage of AIDS that is both depletive and permissive for opportunistic infections and various forms of neoplasia. It is within contextual indices of promotion of depleted T-helper lymphocytes and of augmented viremic loads that manifestations of classic lesions emerge as the AIDS phenomenon. It is further to be realized that an apoptotic response of multiple cell subtypes including T-lymphocytes includes host-cell participation within formulated settings of further persistence of the retroviral infection. An all-inclusive phenomenon of dendritic cell-lymphocyte synapse formulation corresponds to the establishment of HIV-1 infection that specifically conditions all subsequent stages in depletion of the injured host cells regardless of the dynamics or kinetics of the retroviral replicative infectious process itself.
Procedural Justice and Innovation: Does Procedural Justice Foster Innovative Behavior?  [PDF]
Bernhard Streicher, Eva Jonas, Günter W. Maier, Dieter Frey
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2012.312A162
Abstract:

The influence of procedural justice on intended innovative behavior was studied in a sample of students and employees. Although earlier studies suggests that procedural justice increases innovation-related behavior such as spontaneous cooperation, so far systematic research is scarce. Results indicated that the provision of voice increased participants’ intention to show innovative behavior such as task revision, creativity, and persistence in a business simulation task. Furthermore, the effects found were mediated by intrinsic motivation and identification, but not by occupational self-efficacy. These findings suggest that justice in organizations and procedural fair conditions in particular can drive innovations.

Analysis of a single soybean microtubule’s persistence length  [PDF]
Mitra Shojania Feizabadi, Jimmy Barrientos, Carly Winton
Advances in Bioscience and Biotechnology (ABB) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/abb.2013.410122
Abstract:

In this study, we have reported for the first time the persistence length of a single soybean microtubule in vitro. The measurement is based on analysis of thermal bending of a single soybean microtubule. Similar to mammalian microtubules, the length dependency of the persistence length was also observed for this species of plant microtubule. The identification of two intrinsic aspects of plant microtubules: the persistence length and the compositional structure in terms of variety of beta tubulin isotypes, and the potential correlation between these two factors, provides evidence for the functionality mechanism of plant microtubules. In this work, these two fundamental factors have been further discussed for our case study: single soybean microtubule.

Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2017.53035
Abstract: With the rapid development of economy and the deepening of the globalization, the competition between countries all over the world is becoming more and more fierce. In order to improve the comprehensive national strength and achieve the development of the nation, a government reform upsurge arises at the historic moment. China has a vast territory, and local governments at various levels are the key to ensure the overall stability and progress of our country. An effective local government can enhance the local advantages and competitive ability, and then improve the overall strength of our country. Of course, an effective local government needs to constantly improve its own knowledge system, so that its governance will be more scientific. This article uses the method of literature review to study the relationship between local governance and local knowledge. And we hope to find ways to improve the ability of local governance. Meanwhile, this article introduces the characteristics of local governance and local knowledge, and analyzes the relationship between local governance and local knowledge, and then it puts forward corresponding suggestions on local governance.
