Abstract:

The last decade we have witnessed an unprecedented development of telecommunication technologies. This is not only due to devices capacity improvement, but also due to network performance amelioration. Moreover, new technologies were proposed such as UMTS (3G), giving users more mobility and therefore more freedom. However, this resulted in a more demanding application, particularly for QoS provisioning. WIFI and UMTS are among these new telecommunication technologies. Although each one has its own QoS techniques, WIFI experiences a lack in QoS provisioning and UMTS should be further improved to guaranty QoS. Our approach is simple. To be improved, each technology can benefit from QoS techniques of the other, of course, if this is possible. In this case, it’s clear that UMTS can take advantage of WIFI QoS techniques, because UMTS uses physically a multitude of channels, using different bit rates and channel managements. While, WIFI uses a single channel with a single channel management, that is random access method. UMTS also uses a random access channel (PRACH channel), therefore we can apply WIFI QoS techniques to UMTS PRACH channel. In this study, we present WIFI and UMTS networks. The Syntax-Semantics-Prosody Interface in Legislative Language  [PDF]

Abstract: Though Chinese and English legislative language share similarities in certain aspects, they contrast most sharply in their syntactic structures and representations, owing to a number of social, cultural and typological factors. Traditional works have directed most of their attention to the lexicon, i.e. the collection of technical terms which are indispensable to the working of law, and the analysis of idiosyncrasies of those terms. Not much effort, if any, has been at present devoted to the study of the syntactic properties of legislative language and the way syntactic computation interfaces with semantic layer, which, the author believes, play a more determinate role in the constructing and interpreting of legislative clauses. This paper first attempts to examine the syntax-semantics interface in Chinese and English legal clauses from the levels of recursion, locality of reference and the general principle of economy respectively, and then tries to study how the position and stress of a word affect the syntax-prosody interface and the information flow. In the end, it concludes that syntax is responsible for base meaning and while prosody highlights a part or parts of that meaning.

Abstract:
This paper explores the Hausa verbal art forms in Shaihu Umar, a novel first published in the Hausa language and then translated into English. The paper mostly focuses on the author’s use of the structures of a Hausa initiation tale as a vehicle for the narrative in the novel. In other words, the paper attempts to investigate how the author uses the structures of Hausa tales for stylistic effects. As a result, the paper tries to identify and analyze what the novel owes to the indigenous Hausa literary tradition as an illustration of the interface between orality and literacy.
Improvement of a Joystick Controller for Electric Wheelchair User  [PDF]

Abstract: The electric wheelchair is an effective machine for people with lower limb disability. The user controls the wheelchair by a joystick that helps the user to navigate the wheelchair along the desired path. Suppose the user on the wheelchair wants to operate the computer for his jobs or enjoyment, it is preferable for the user to be able to operate the computer without transferring from the wheelchair to a computer desk. Of course, some computer input devices are available for wheelchairs. One reasonable idea is to use the familiar joystick on the wheelchair as a computer input device. In this paper a joystick controller is proposed, which enables the user on the wheelchair to operate the computer settled on a nearby table. The proposed joystick controller can be achieved by mounting the sensor unit on the joystick without any modification of the conventional wheelchair controller. The principle of the sensing unit is to measure the inclination angle and the direction of the joystick with an acceleration and gyro sensor. Then the sensing unit sends the control data to the computer via an infrared or wireless signal. This proposal is based on a request done by the wheelchair users.

Abstract: 流畅用户界面(Fluent User Interface,简称FUI)所采用的标签(Tags)交互相比传统的菜单(Menus)交互有较为鲜明的特点,在人机界面的发展历史上的具有重要意义,如今已被各大软件厂商纷纷效仿。本文剖析了菜单交互与流畅用户界面的特点,从转变背景与转变原因上分析了两种交互方式的转变以及对软件人机交互界面设计带来的启示。
Compared with the traditional menus interaction, Fluent User Interface (referred to as “FUI”), which is based on the tags interaction, has distinctive characteristics. FUI is of great significance in the history of the development of the Human-Computer Interface, and it has now been followed by a number of big software vendors one after another. This article firstly analyzes the characteristics of the two Human-Computer interface, then analyzes the transformation of them mainly from the two aspects: transformation background and the causes. The enlightenment of the Fluent User Interface is given in the end of the article.

Abstract: The interface is the first impression for most users, by which they communicate with the software, despite being constantly created interfaces not appropriate, even with great effort and energy involved in the preparation. To create a good interface designers are experienced and committed employees to evaluate various means, depending, including the economic feasibility and available resources. There are several types of interface in use today, despite the consolidated current interface technology, which needs more care for their development, given the resources availablecomplexibilidade. In the design of interface used various resources such as graphics, colors and symbols, which should encourage inductive reasoning, deductive and heuristic, considered the factors and human capabilities, such as level of ability, personality, memory, short and long term and accumulated knowledge, which are used to implement the interface with expected results, resource recovery, guiding the user as well as considering the use by several different users. Abstract: The changing trends in information technology have greatly influenced the role of GIS in spatial data management, analysis, processing and presentation. It has evolved from the conventional cartography and image processing to advanced 3D visualization and dynamic graphics tools. Due to this evolving nature of GIS, it has found wide applications in a number of diverse fields. Geophysical exploration projects involve data acquisition at hundreds of spatial locations resulting in large number of datasets. It takes a great deal of time to manage all these datasets during data processing and interpretation. This paper presents the use of GIS as an effective project management tool, providing an interactive data access interface in compute intensive geophysical processing applications. A reusable GIS software component is presented which can be used by geophysical applications to manage their datasets. A practical example is included to demonstrate the implementation of this GIS component as an embedded Project Manager in a seismic refraction software.

Abstract: This work aims to describe the behavior of the interface using the method of load transfer between fiber and matrix in a composite material. Our contribution is to track the Evolution of the thermomechanical behavior by establishing a new mathematical model that describes the variation of shear stress along the interface. This model has been implemented in code in C++. The results revealed that the shear of the interface increases with temperature. This increase is partly due to the difference in expansion coefficient between fiber and matrix. The composite studied is T300/914; Carbon-Epoxy.
