Development of Digital-Controlled Measuring Instrument for Hearing  [PDF]

Abstract: A digital-controlled measuring instrument for hearing, which is mainly composed of STC11F16EX, AD9833, ISD400416MS and LM1972, is introduced in this paper. It may output highly accurate and purified sine signal whose frequency and amplitude are controlled by digital data. Specially, the displaying number of decibel is equal to actual number of decibel because that frequency response of earphone is corrected through software of microcontroller. Additionally, touching buttons, which is simple and convenience to use, is selected. Hence this instrument is convenient to measure and teach about hearing specially, research and study on frequency characteristic of human ear and impedance characteristic of human body in medical science.

Abstract: An open-ended and multifunctional double-channel signal generator, which based on a 32 bits monolithic integrated microcomputer, highly integrated device and LCD, is introduced in this paper. The instrument is composed of micro-computer STM32F103RD and some integrated chips (IC), which includes programmable waveform generators-AD9833 with highly frequency and phase precision. As a result, this signal generator may output not only double channels accurate sine, square or triangle waveforms with digital-controlled frequency and phase at the same time, but also many kinds of physiological signals that can be modified by USB connection with well open property. Therefore, it is convenient to measure and teach about hearing, research and study on frequency characteristic of human ear and impedance characteristic of human body in medical science. In addition, it is also very easy in experiment and research of college and medical physics for using double channels sine signal to show synthesis of two simple harmonic vibrations under different frequency, phase difference and direction, such as beat pattern and Lissajous figures. Thus it has many merits, such as the small volume, stable property, simple operation, visual display and so on. Consequently, it can be widely used in researching, teaching, debugging and maintaining.

Abstract: A partial oscillation phenomenon in a digital-controlled three-phase inverter system, which is controlled by proportional controller in synchronous rotating reference frame, is analyzed in this paper. First, the discrete-time model of the system is derived. Then, a dynamics analysis scheme for this type of system is proposed. In addition, the underlying mechanism of the partial oscillation phenomenon occurring in this system is analyzed. The factors, which will cause the partial oscillation, are exactly predicted by analytical expressions. Finally, the theoretical results are verified by both simulations and experiments. These conclusions can provide an insight into the dynamics of the system.

Abstract: We implemented a ‘controlled language’ as a more expressive representation method. We studied how usable this format was for wet-lab-biologists that volunteered as curators. We assessed some issues that arise with the usability of ontologies and other controlled vocabularies, for the encoding of structured information by ‘untrained’ curators. We take a user-oriented viewpoint, and make recommendations that may prove useful for creating a better curation environment: one that can engage a large community of volunteer curators.Entering information in a biocuration environment could improve in expressiveness and user-friendliness, if curators would be enabled to use synonymous and polysemous terms literally, whereby each term stays linked to an identifier.The Life Sciences are producing vast amounts of information. Each year, over half a million new publications is indexed by PubMed/Medline, and this volume keeps growing increasingly faster. All this information can only be processed effectively with computer assistance. However, most knowledge is only reported through natural language, a format that remains fairly opaque to computers despite flourishing text-mining research [1,2]. Comprehensive and accurate digital formalisation of the published information still needs human intervention, a process called manual curation. But it was shown that curators working in small, focused groups (like institutes) don’t have the capacity to keep up with the enormous growth of new findings [3]. This calls for a crowdsourced setup: a large, distributed community of scientists that collectively curates on a part-time, volunteer basis [4-7].As has been argued, every publication should best become accompanied by a manually created, or at least validated, structured digital abstract (SDA) [7-9]. Abstract: The digital age has transformed access to all kinds of educational content not only in text-based format but also digital images and other media. As learning technologists and librarians begin to organise these new media into digital collections for educational purposes, older problems associated with cataloguing and classifying non-text media have re-emerged. At the heart of this issue is the problem of describing complex and highly subjective images in a reliable and consistent manner. This paper reports on the findings of research designed to test the suitability of two controlled vocabularies to index and thereby improve the discoverability of images stored in the Learning Exchange, a repository for social work education and research. An online survey asked respondents to "tag", a series of images and responses were mapped against the two controlled vocabularies. Findings showed that a large proportion of user generated tags could be mapped to the controlled vocabulary terms (or their equivalents). The implications of these findings for indexing and discovering content are discussed in the context of a wider review of the literature on "folksonomies" (or user tagging) versus taxonomies and controlled vocabularies.
Design of Low Noise 16-bit CMOS Digitally Controlled Oscillator

Abstract: In this paper, a new differential delay cell is proposed and 16-bit Digital Controlled Oscillator (DCO) based on proposed delay cell is designed. The 16-bit DCO consist of 4-stages differential delay cell in ring structure and a digital control scheme has been used to improved noise characteristics. The structure of the DCO utilizes dual delay path techniques to achieve high oscillation frequency and awide tuning range. The DCO circuit has been simulated in SPICE with 0.5μm technology operating with supply voltage of 5V. DCO achieved a controllable frequency range of [1.7324-4.8649] GHz with a tuningrange of 3.1325GHz (≈64%). The measured output noise is -161.2dB/Hz and the total harmonic distortion have been found 75.4865dB with 6666H control word. The phase noise in proposed DCO design is -179.4dB/Hz at a frequency of 1.7324GHz.

Abstract: A Hybrid Wave Pipelining Phase Accumulator for Direct Digital Synthesizer is presented in this paper. Conventional Pipelining requires additional registers and it results in more area, power dissipation and clock routing complexity. Wave-pipelining does not have any of these disadvantages and it can be used to speed up the circuits without insertion of storage elements. The clock period in conventional pipeline scheme is proportional to the maximum delay while in hybrid wave-pipelining it is proportional to the maximum delay difference. To prove the better performance of the Hybrid wave pipelining Phase Accumulator DDS architecture compared it favorably with several existing DDS architecture. The focus of this paper is on design and analysis of hybrid wave pipelining Phase Accumulator DDS, using XilinxISE9.2i.
