Targeting Brazilian Market through Digital Branding Strategies: The Relevance of the Cultural Dimension  [PDF]
Lilian Maria de Souza Almeida
Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2015.31004
Abstract: While Internet has been achieving its omnipresence worldwide and offering to companies the opportunity of trading in a “no-borders” market, global brands, and those aspiring to become global, face the challenge of dealing with significant cultural differences. Emergent economies account for one of the greatest opportunities for global brands interested in extending their business overseas through digital channels. Among these economies, Brazil has been receiving special focus lately as a promising consumer market. Working from a theoretical point of view through literature and simultaneously examining companies as potential paradigms, this study aims to provide suggestions for global brands interested in targeting the Brazilian market through effective cross-cultural digital branding strategies. The results are valuable insights about how to establish better communication with Brazilian consumers and also offer some guidance to help marketers to keep brands desired and admired in Brazil. It was mainly concluded that global brands should find out the right balance between a standardized and an adapted cultural approach in order to establish a trust-worthy proximity with Brazilian consumers on the digital environment.
Proton Exchange in Water/Mycelium System: Transdisciplinary Out-of-Equilibrium Thermodynamic Approach Using Potentiometric Titration  [PDF]
Vicente R. de Almeida, Bruno Szpoganicz
Open Journal of Physical Chemistry (OJPC) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojpc.2013.34023

In this study, we used potentiometric titration to investigate the interaction of the saprophytic fungus Trametes villosa in an aqueous environment. The study of this biological complex system allowed us to observe the evolution of out-ofequilibrium hydrogen ion potential states after systematic perturbations. The responses of the complex system to perturbations were interpreted from relations that provided qualitative response patterns for mycelium in agreement with their basic structural and organizational characteristics. We consider this to be a transdisciplinary example of the behavior of general systems with thermodynamic properties of great ecological relevance, being specifically related to the negentropic properties of heterogeneous systems.

Romantic Jealousy and Love Infidelity Correlations  [PDF]
Thiago de Almeida, Adriano Schl?sser
Current Urban Studies (CUS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/cus.2014.23021
Abstract: Many researchers have studied the factors that can contribute to a loving relationship remaining stable and having a good quality for both partners. Two of the most worrying concerns that people have in regard to love relationships are the jealousy and infidelity. The purpose of this study was to verify whether there is relationship between these two phenomena. In this study, 45 heterosexual couples with an average age of 24.6 years participated, who were recruited through an ad placed on the site of a public university located in the city of Sao Paulo. To assess the degrees of jealousy of the participants, “Escala de ciúme romantico—ECR” was used. To evaluate the infidelity of the participants, the “Inventário de comportamentos relacionados à infidelidade” created specifically for this work was used. The results indicated that: 1) though it was so low, the jealousy is an agent of self-fulfilling prophecy for infidelity (r = 0.25, 90 df, p < 0.05); and 2) there is an association for the infidelity of each partner related to the infidelity of the other partner (r = 0.36, df 45, p < 0.05). These results indicate, therefore, that there is a direct relationship between the jealousy and infidelity.
Lift Truck Load Stress in Concrete Floors  [PDF]
Vinicius Fernando Arcaro, Luiz Carlos de Almeida
Open Journal of Civil Engineering (OJCE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojce.2017.72015
Abstract: This text presents an analytical expression to calculate the maximum tension, at the bottom side of a concrete slab on ground, due to lift truck wheel loads. The result of the analytical expression is in close agreement with the result of a design chart by the Portland Cement Association and with the result of a finite element analysis. The analytical expression is able to show the relationships among the design variables and it can be used for the thickness design of concrete floors for factories and warehouses. The expression applies only to unreinforced concrete slabs on ground.
Practical Aspects of the Design and Construction of a Small Cable Roof Structure  [PDF]
Vinicius Fernando Arcaro, Luiz Carlos de Almeida
Open Journal of Civil Engineering (OJCE) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojce.2017.73031
Abstract: Cable roof structures?have?only become widespread in large span structures in the latter part of the twentieth century. However,?they?still represent a relatively new form of roof construction, especially as in the present case of a small span innovative structural solution. The contribution of this text to the structural engineering community lies in the increased interest in building simple cable roof structures. Since its completion in September 1996, this small cable roof structure has been recognized as an interesting architectural and structural example. The text describes aspects of the design and construction of a small cable roof that was designed as a roof for an open-air theater stage for the city of Sao Jose do Rio Pardo, Sao Paulo, Brazil. A cable network, in the shape of a hyperbolic paraboloid surface, is anchored in a reinforced concrete edge ring. The projection of the ring’s axis onto the ground plane is an ellipse. Workers with specialized training were employed in the various stages of the construction, which was completed in September 1996.
Trajetória da análise de acidentes: o paradigma tradicional e os primórdios da amplia??o da análise
Almeida, Ildeberto Muniz de;
Interface - Comunica??o, Saúde, Educa??o , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-32832006000100013
Abstract: the traditional approach to accidents assumes that compliance with procedures and norms protects the system from accidents and that these events are caused by the faulty behavior of workers, which results partly from personality aspects. identification of these behaviors can be based on comparing them with the standard "safe working practices", which safety experts are aware of ahead of time. in recent decades, new alternative views have expanded the perimeters of accident analyses and opened the way to questioning the assumption of the traditional approach to the concepts of the human being and work. these new approaches help to highlight the sterile results of traditional practices: blaming and punishing victims, recommending training, and proposing norms without changing the systems in which the accidents took place. the new approaches suggest that the traditional approach is totally worn out and emphasize the importance of operator contribution for system safety.
Melodrama comercial: reflex?es sobre a feminiliza??o da telenovela
Almeida, Heloisa Buarque de;
Cadernos Pagu , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-83332002000200008
Abstract: this article intends to discuss the associations between soap-opera and female audiences, disclosing the commercial interests that lie behind this symbolic construction. this association - that has historical and cultural origins - leads to useful aspects for networks like rede globo, for it relies on another strong symbolic association in the realms of marketing and advertising, that which considers consumption a feminine practice. soap-opera and consumption are both deeply connected to the domestic space and the family, and these connections are reinforced by advertising and the cultural industry.
Comércio: perfil, reestrutura??o e tendências
Almeida, Marilis Lemos de;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73301997000400007
Abstract: this paper aims to provide some reflections about organisational and technological changes in the trade sector. lately, it has increased the number of people employed in this sector which, such as other sectors, is promoting meaningful changes in the labour process. thus, as study on this sector is justified because of this importance in the employment creation. it is important to know how, this employment is created in this sector, who occupies these and what skilfulness the trade sector demands of its workers. in the trade sector case, where the type skill previously demanded was simple, i has been verified that the restructuring ? either taking into account the cases related to the management changes or those in which have been adopted new technologies, or both cases ? occurred without becoming the work more complex and therefore, without promoting a skilfulness increase on the workers involved. the trade case, in which simple tasks are prevailing, suggests that the skilfulness previously demand is a major variable for the reflection about the implications of the restructuring in the relation to the occupational profiles.
Indícios do sistema coeducativo na forma??o de professores pelas escolas normais durante o regime republicano em S?o Paulo (1890/1930)
Almeida, Jane Soares de;
Educar em Revista , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-40602009000300011
Abstract: the article analyses the training of teachers by normal schools in sao paulo from 1890 to 1931, period guided by the adoption in the school system of ideas of the republican enlightenment. according to the spirit of federation that took over the country and the enlightenment ideas, aligned with the positivism and the liberal conceptions, the public school should be improving and expanding. the normal schools were the ideal institutions for such training and at the same time, indicated that women have all the qualifications to take care of the children education. attempts to deploy the co-educational system, targeting equal education for the two sexes, proposal which has restrictions on families, educators and the catholic church, it caused some discussions that ultimately fall into the void in light of the most pressing educational issues.
