Equilibrium points and bifurcation control of a chaotic system

Abstract: Based on the Routh--Hurwitz criterion, this paper investigates the stability of a new chaotic system. State feedback controllers are designed to control the chaotic system to the unsteady equilibrium points and limit cycle. Theoretical analyses give the range of value of control parameters to stabilize the unsteady equilibrium points of the chaotic system and its critical parameter for generating Hopf bifurcation. Certain nP periodic orbits can be stabilized by parameter adjustment. Numerical simulations indicate that the method can effectively guide the system trajectories to unsteady equilibrium points and periodic orbits.
4.8 GHz Intra-Day Variability of FSRQ 0507+179

Abstract: As one of targets of many flux monitoring campaigns, the FSRQ 0507+179 shows various flux variation properties at almost all observing wavelengths, from radio to $\gamma$-ray. With Urumqi 25-m telescope, our study on this object is focusing on its radio flux variability, especially the Intra-Day Variability (IDV). We carried out a total of six epochs of IDV observations on 0507+179 at 4.8 GHz since Mar. 2010, found clearly IDV behaviors in all observing sessions and consider it is likely a type I IDV source by analyzing the characteristics and the timescales of the light curves. Additionally, we found 0507+179 exhibited some different IDV behaviors after an optical flare.
Moving Targets Virtually Via Composite Optical Transformation

Abstract: We propose a composite optical transformation to design an illusion device which can move the image of a target from one place to another place. Enclosed by such an illusion device, an arbitrary object located at one place appears to be at another place virtually. Different from the published shifted-position cloak which is composed of the left-handed materials with simultaneously negative permittivity and permeability, the illusion device proposed in this letter has positive permittivity and permeability. Hence proposed illusion device could be realized by artificial metamaterials.

Abstract: The additional anticorrosive coating and hydrophilic layer of glass fiber cloth (GFC) deposited on the carbon steel sheet (CSS) was experimented and the surface wetting characteristic of the hydrophilic modified collection electrode was investigated under single strand feed water condition. The distilled water was selected as the working fluid. The influence of Reynolds number on the surface wetting characteristic parameters and those parameters at different temperatures were specifically studied. The results indicate that the GFC surface with loose glass fiber bundles reveals remarkable surface wetting characterizations. The saturated liquid holdup of this surface is 8 - 10 times more than that of the CSS surface; the surface flowrate value is 6 - 8 percent of that of the CSS surface; the film rate of this surface is 28 - 32 times more than that of the CSS surface; the average film thickness is between a third and a half of the value of the CSS surface. Good agreement is achieved between the WESPs working temperature and the experimental temperature range with remarkable wetting characterizations that provides a theoretical basis for the industrial application. Not satisfactorily, the hydrophilic modification surface is not able to survive high temperature.

Abstract: Motility is an important physiological characteristic of a mature sperm. Nerve growth factor (NGF) is a key protein for the survival, maintenance and development of the central and peripheral nervous systems. It has been shown that NGF and its receptors TrkA and p75 are widely expressed in the testis, accessory reproductive organ, and the epididymal sperms. These observation have shifted the attention to the role of NGF on male reproductive physiology. In the present study, we found that NGF remarkably increased testicular coefficient in rats subjected to unpredictable chronic mild stress. Furthermore, we investigated the role of NGF on human sperm motility in vitro by CASA. The results showed that the parameters of sperm motility after NGF treatment had significantly increased, the means of VAP, VSL, VCL, BCF and LIN were significantly increased 32% than those of NGF absence, the means of MAD, STR, ALH and WOB had no notable difference. In addition, NGF promotes the sperm motility in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Taken together, our findings suggest that NGF plays a promoted role in sperm motility.
3D Geology Modeling from 2D Prospecting Line Profile Map  [PDF]

Abstract: Using prospecting line profile map in combination with drilling and other information for 3D reconstruction of geological model is an important method of 3D geological modeling.This paperdiscusses the theory and implementation method of 2D prospecting line map into 3D prospecting line map and then into 3D model. The authors propose that it needs twice upgrading dimension to reconstruction 3D geology model from prospecting line profile map. The first upgrading dimension is to convert profile from 2D into 3D profile,i.e.the 2D points in the 2D profile map upgrading dimensional transformation to 3D points in a 3D profile. The second upgrading dimension is that transform 0D point 1D curve and 2D polygon feature into 1D curve, 2D surface and 3D solid feature. The paper reexamines contents and forms in prospecting line map from the two different viewpoints of geology and geographic information science. The process of 3D geology modeling from 2D prospecting map is summarized as follows. Firstly, profile is divided into several sections by beginning, end and drill point of the prospecting line. Next, a 3D folded upright profile frame is built by 2D folded prospecting line on the plan map. Then, 2D points of features on 2D profile are converted into 3D points on 3D profile section by section. And then, adding switch control points for the long line crossover two segments. Lastly, 1D curve features are upgraded to 2D surface.

Abstract: Based on the birefringence effect in some crystals, the pulse -- controlled polarization converter is advanced in this paper. It can convert the six polarization components of the polarized light into light intensity pulse by time--shared control system. The fundamental principle of the converter is presented. Generally, the pulse -- controlled polarization converter may be constituted by the electro--optic crystal with the dual transverse Pockels effect,the coded pulse electric field and the analyzer with a fixed direction. The different sensing signals contained in the different polarization components of the polarized light can be obtained by the converter and the time -- shared detection system through a single light path. This method can improve the sensitivity of signal detection and its anti--jamming. It is experimentally showed that the X,Y polarization components of the polarized light can be converted into light intensity pulses at a fixed direction by using a lithium niobate crystal and a pulse electric field.
Investigations of the Electromagnetic Properties of Three-Dimensional Arbitrarily-Shaped Cloaks

Abstract: We investigate the electromagnetic properties of three-dimensional (3D) arbitrarily-shaped invisible cloaks based on the analytical field transformation theory instead of the complicated numerical simulations. Very simple closed-form expressions for fields and energy flows have been derived for arbitrarily-shaped 3D cloak, which could help us to investigate the electromagnetic properties of the 3D cloaks rapidly and efficiently. The difference between 2D and 3D cloaks have been compared in detail. Distributions of the fields, power flows and wave polarizations for the 3D case have been discussed inside the cloak. Numerical results have been presented at the cutplanes of cloaks to valid the theoretical analysis, which shows clearly how the incident waves are bent at the inner boundary. In order to further reveal the physical essence of the cloaks, both 3D spherical and ellipsoidal cloaks have been considered based on the analytical method. The common features and the differences for the two structures have been also illustrated in this paper.

Abstract: A major diagnostic challenge to the evaluation of an incomplete intestinal obstruction is to distinguish between infectious and malignant etiologies. We present a case of an elderly woman complaining of abdominal pain accompanied with nausea and vomiting, and failure to pass gas or stools. Anti-tuberculosis drugs were used to relieve her abdominal pain, and a needle biopsy of the peritoneal cavity showed evidence of primary papillary serous carcinoma of the peritoneum (PSCP). This is a rare description of tuberculosis in the setting of PSCP. This report illustrates the potential complex nature of malignancies, and emphasizes the need to consider coexistence of malignancy and infection in patients, especially in those with risk factors for malignancy who fail with antibiotic therapy.
