Abstract: among the many activities that family healthcare doctors and nurses carry out, the present study had the aims of characterizing the programmed, preventive and interventional actions relating to adolescents and analyzing professionals' perceptions regarding the care practices for this age group, through quantitative-qualitative analysis. the results showed that nurses carry out programmed actions such as prenatal appointments, uterine cancer prevention and family planning more often than doctors do. doctors state that their actions are accomplished during their appointments. both nurses and doctors say that they provide guidance regarding pregnancy prevention, std/aids and condom use. almost all nurses and just over 50% of doctors carry out interventional actions. there is a consensus regarding the need to implement a systematized service and for the municipality to capacitate all professionals, restructure the material and human resources, introduce other professionals and integrate the actions with services other than healthcare.

Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2009000400016
Abstract: the expansion of the pharmaceutical market in the 20th century led to important changes in the consumption of medications worldwide. the objective of the current study was to analyze acute intentional and accidental poisoning with medications according to factors related to the individual, the poisoning, and the drug involved. this was a cross-sectional study that collected secondary data on all cases of acute poisoning with medications reported from 2003 to 2004 by the poison control center at the regional university hospital in maringá, paraná state, brazil. we studied a total of 546 cases of acute poisoning with medications. females predominated among intentional cases (79.8%), and the 0-9-year age bracket was the most common among accidental cases (51.9%). the most frequently involved drugs were those acting on the central nervous system (57.2%), predominantly those requiring controlled prescriptions, especially among the intentional cases (66.2%). the results demonstrate the characteristics of acute poisoning from medications in maringá, confirming the need for preventive measures that contribute to the rational use of medications.

Ferrari, Rosangela Aparecida Pimenta;Thomson, Zuleika;Melchior, Regina;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2006001100024
Abstract: this descriptive qualitative study was conducted in basic healthcare units to analyze the perceptions of physicians and nurses from family health teams concerning healthcare for adolescents, using content analysis with an emphasis on thematic analysis. the discourse of these health professionals showed that care exists for adolescents in the family health service, but that: it is not systematized because of other priorities; adolescents fail to use the service; the health professionals feel unprepared to draw adolescents to the service and treat them; and in order to implement a healthcare program for adolescents in the family health strategy it would be necessary to reorganize the service to train the existing team members and hire other professionals. thus, the interviewees value differentiated care for adolescents, and even while recognizing their limitations and reporting not having been trained, they conduct joint actions with other areas beyond health, demonstrating that they transcend the limits of the health service and seek new ways of treating adolescents holistically.

Abstract: acute poisoning with medicines in brazil has various causes, including a deficient national drug policy. the current study thus aimed to analyze socioeconomic variables, prescription characteristics, and forms of purchase or acquisition and storing of medicines by victims of acute unintentional poisoning. the data were collected during home visits to patients with a record of acute unintentional drug poisoning according to the poison control center in maringá, paraná state, in 2004. the variables were related to the victim, the poisoning event, the product, and its household storage. for the 97 poisonings recorded during the study period, 72 families were interviewed, with the majority of the victims under 10 years of age (73.6%), males (54.2%), and from lower-income groups (63.9%). many interviewees reported not having received information about the drug (76.5%). there was a significant association between lower-income status and inadequate drug storage (p < 0.05). a larger proportion of poisonings in higher-income families involved expired products (p < 0.05). inadequate acquisition and storage of drugs may thus have facilitated the occurrence of poisonings.

Ferre,Zuleika;
Cuadernos de Economía , 2011,
Abstract: this paper examines the relationship among individuals, analyzing household's transfers in time or money with the perceived access to time and money help among relatives. the principal aim of this work was to understand if instances in which the members of a family support a relative can be considered to be an investment in networks and therefore accumulation of social capital. on the other hand, it analyzes the potential tradeoffs of assistance (money versus time). the study finds that the assistance is explained by the exchange hypothesis. there isn't specialization, the help provided in time and money appears to be a substitute and not complementary.
