Revista de la Universidad Industrial de Santander. Salud , 2012,
Scaling limit and aging for directed trap models
Olivier Zindy
Mathematics , 2007,
Abstract: We consider one-dimensional directed trap models and suppose that the trapping times are heavy-tailed. We obtain the inverse of a stable subordinator as scaling limit and prove an aging phenomenon expressed in terms of the generalized arcsine law. These results confirm the status of universality described by Ben Arous and \v{C}ern\'y for a large class of graphs.
Upper limits of Sinai's walk in random scenery
Olivier Zindy
Mathematics , 2006,
Abstract: We consider Sinai's walk in i.i.d. random scenery and focus our attention on a conjecture of R\'ev\'esz \cite{r05} concerning the upper limits of Sinai's walk in random scenery when the scenery is bounded from above. A close study of the competition between the concentration property for Sinai's walk and negative values for the scenery enables us to prove that the conjecture is true if the scenery has "thin" negative tails and is false otherwise.
A Methodology to Assess Diagnostic Competence in Anatomical Pathology Examinations for Pathology Residents Metodología para evaluar la competencia diagnóstico de exámenes anatomopatológicos en residentes de Anatomía Patológica
Caridad Socorro Castro,Margarita Roméu Escobar
MediSur , 2011,
Abstract: Background: For years, the tools for learning assessment of physicians in specialization programs have had an empirical character, leading to problems in the quality of the process. Very often, these tools do not measure the fulfilment of proposed educational objectives and grades awarded to students do not reflect their practical achievements and professional skills. Objective: To develop a methodology to assess diagnostic competence in anatomical pathology examinations for Pathology residents. Method: Development research conducted in the University Hospital of Cienfuegos between 2008 and 2010. In addition to theoretical and empirical methods, experts’ criteria were applied to validate the proposal. Results: A logical, stages-based design of a general methodology was created. A tool including indicators and standards was conformed to assess skills and knowledge while interns performe key activities of their specialty. The methodology was validated through experts’ criteria. Conclusions: Teachers and tutors of this specialty are now provided with an unprecedented methodological tool. Its usefulness lies in a more objective assessment of knowledge and skills for diagnostic biopsies, cytology and autopsies. This procedures support diagnostic competence in pathological examinations, which is ultimately pathologists’ key role. The present methodological design can be adapted and applied in the evaluation of interns from other specialties.

In this paper we present results from an interdisciplinary study of a diverse array of documents centered on the mining history of the Taltal-Paposo area and its relation to the social process in this part of the desert coast of northern Chile. We focus on an anthropological-historical perspective spanning from prehistory until the present day. We use historical data from the Archivo Nacional de Chile, printed materials from 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, and archaeological and ethnographic data. We attempt to show continuities and sociocultural changes caused by the historical mining process of these localities from an anthropological point of view based on a cross-disciplinary dialogue.
A weakness in strong localization for Sinai's walk
Zhan Shi,Olivier Zindy
Mathematics , 2006, DOI: 10.1214/009117906000000863
Abstract: Sinai's walk is a recurrent one-dimensional nearest-neighbor random walk in random environment. It is known for a phenomenon of strong localization, namely, the walk spends almost all time at or near the bottom of deep valleys of the potential. Our main result shows a weakness of this localization phenomenon: with probability one, the zones where the walk stays for the most time can be far away from the sites where the walk spends the most time. In particular, this gives a negative answer to a problem of Erd\H{o}s and R\'{e}v\'{e}sz [Mathematical Structures--Computational Mathematics--Mathematical Modelling 2 (1984) 152--157], originally formulated for the usual homogeneous random walk.
DETERMINACIóN EXPERIMENTAL DE LA APTITUD A LA EXPANSIóN TéRMICA DE ARCILLAS

DYNA , 2006,
Abstract: the main goal of this job was to study, at laboratory level, the ability of several clays to expand at high temperatures up to become lightweight aggregates. the study was carried out varying burning temperature and clay composition (clays and clays plus expansion promoter agents, such as calcium carbonate and coal fly ashes). the experimental procedure included four stages: preparation, characterization, preliminary burning tests and specific burning tests; it was used the percentage volume change of each sample as a thermal expansion comparison parameter and density, open porosity and water absorption of the obtained products were used as quality parameters. it was found that one of the studied clays showed ability to expand in a natural way and there were other five modified clays (clays mixed with different proportions of additives) that also expanded at temperatures between 1100°c and 1250°c.
