A Comparison of Classifiers in Performing Speaker Accent Recognition Using MFCCs  [PDF]

Abstract:

An algorithm involving Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) is provided to perform signal feature extraction for the task of speaker accent recognition. Then different classifiers are compared based on the MFCC feature. For each signal, the mean vector of MFCC matrix is used as an input vector for pattern recognition. A sample of 330 signals, containing 165 US voice and 165 non-US voice, is analyzed. By comparison, k-nearest neighbors yield the highest average test accuracy, after using a cross-validation of size 500, and least time being used in the computation.

Bayesian Variable Selection for Linear Regression with the $κ$-$G$ Priors

Abstract: In this article we develop a new methodology for Bayesian variable selection in multiple linear regression that is independent of the standard indicator vector method. Serving as an extension of Zellner's $g$-prior, we extend the original scalar $g$ to a diagonal matrix $G$ that controls the stability of the prior on the coefficients $\boldsymbol{\beta}$, and each of the elements $g_j$ controls the stability of its corresponding dimension. From the Metropolis-within-Gibbs sampling method, the posterior values of $G$ are sampled and those promising variables tend to have a $g_j$'s that are close to $0$. Thus the promising variables are chosen based on the posterior of $g_j$. As each of the $g_j$'s is a stabilizer of its own dimension, the $1-g_j$ values imitates the posterior inclusion probability (PIP) as in the standard methodology.
Design and Optimization of Comb Drive Accelerator for High Frequency Oscillation  [PDF]

Abstract: Comb-drive devises have been widely applied in many fields. However, the application of high frequency sensor, such as rocket chamber, still remains problems. In this work, a finite element code was used for the design, optimization and visualization of a comb drive accelerator. In the simulation results, the post-optimization design has high performance in high frequency oscillation operating environment. The optimization is based on the ideal eigenfrequency and Nelder-Mead method. The 3-D working conditions are realized by testing and comparing the time and frequency domain of pre-optimized and optimized design whose frequency ranges from 2000 Hz to 5000 Hz. Finally, the electric potential and capacitance in comb drive are visualized, which shows the better electric signals and displacements.

Abstract: 对1983年9月4日发生在陕西中部一次灾害性强风暴过程的天气形势、雷达回波、卫星云图、地面中尺度风场资料及灾情进行了综合分析研究,结果表明:此次灾害性强风暴是一次龙卷过程;龙卷出现在冷锋飑线带状回波尾部,呈典型的弓状回波(环状回波);在卫星云图上表现为南北云系交绥处发展旺盛的中尺度涡旋云团,呈新月状;龙卷发生在地面“人”字形辐合线交点后部强西北风中;龙卷是由地面两条冷锋的共同作用造成的;飑锋回波出现在龙卷雷暴后部,表现为两条平行的线状回波,与经典理论有不同之处。

Abstract: The isolated tissue samples are illuminated by using the LED radiation sources at different wavelengths. Then, the ray transmitted through the tissue samples is received by using a spectrometer. The waveform and wavelength distribution of the ray transmitted through the tissue samples from the LEDs are compared. The frequency spectra of the ray transmitted through the same tissues at different frequencies is analyzed. Finally, the optimal wavelength range for the LEDs to transmit the tissues is obtained. This result is instructive to the application of the LED radiation sources to therapy products.
A Novel SFP Extracting/Tracking Framework for Rigid Microstructure Measurement

Abstract: 3D measurement and reconstruction of rigid microstructures rely on the precise matches of structural feature points (SFPs) between microscopic images. However, most of the existing algorithms fail in extracting and tracking at microscale due to the poor quality of the microscopic images. This paper presents a novel framework for extracting and matching SFPs in microscopic images under two stereo microscopic imaging modes in our system, that is, fixed-positioning stereo and continuous-rotational stereo modes, respectively. A 4-DOF (degree of freedom) micro visual measurement system is developed for 3D projective structural measurement of rigid microstructures using the SFPs obtained from microscopic images by the proposed framework. Under the fixed-positioning stereo mode, a similarity-pictorial structure algorithm is designed to preserve the illumination invariance in SFPs matching, while a method based on particle filter with affine transformation is developed for accurate tracking of multiple SFPs in image sequence under the continuous-rotational stereo mode. The experimental results demonstrate that the problems of visual distortion, illumination variability, and irregular motion estimation in micro visual measurement process can be effectively resolved by the proposed framework.
