Mathematical Model of a Bacteria-Immunity System with the Influence of Quorum Sensing Signal Molecule  [PDF]

Abstract: A recent study illustrates an exciting new element of bacteria-host interactions in which the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa quorum sensing signal molecule can modulate the host immune system. In this paper, on the basic of a model which describes the competition between bacteria and immune system, a mathematical model is proposed to investigate the modulation of quorum sensing signal molecule on immune response. It is shown that the modulation leads to a backward bifurcation and some more new dynamical behaviors. By numerical simulations, we find a fold bifurcation of equilibria, which induces three patterns of dynamical behaviors including the bistable phenomenon. Our model quantifies the modulation of quorum sensing signal molecule on the immune response, which may provide a therapy for bacteria infections.

Abstract: In a fluid-saturated porous formation, acoustics and electromagnetic waves are coupled based on Pride seismoelectric theory. An exact treatment of the nonaxisymmetric seismoelectric field excited by acoustic multipole sources is presented. The frequency wavenumber domain representations of the acoustic field and associated seismoelectric field due to acoustic multipole sources are formulated. The full waveforms of acoustic waves and electric and magnetic fields in the time domain propagation in borehole are simulated by using discrete wave number integration, and frequency versus axial-wave number responses are presented and analyzed. 1. Introduction The study of wave propagation in a fluid-saturated porous medium is of considerable interest in acoustics and geophysics due to its important applications in various technical and engineering processes. The investigation of wave propagation in fluid-saturated porous media was early developed by Biot [1, 2]. One of the major findings of Biot’s theory was that there is a compressional slow wave in a fluid-saturated porous medium. The first clear experimental observation of this slow wave was reported by Plona [3]. Biot predicted the slow waves should have an important bearing on electrokinetic effect [4]. This predication has been quantitatively confirmed by Pride [5] and Hu [6]. Elastic waves propagating in fluid-saturated porous media generate a movement of the ions in the pore fluid. Such movement induces an electromagnetic (EM) field. Thompson and Gist [7] have made field measurement clearly demonstrating that seismic waves can induce electromagnetic disturbances in saturated sediments. Pride [8] derived the governing equations for the coupled acoustics and electromagnetic waves in fluid-saturated porous media. Pride and Haartsen [9] analyzed the basic properties of seismoelectric waves. The electric field induced by elastic waves is weak and attenuates in propagation. In order to detect the seismoelectric signal effectively, Haartsen and Pride [10] suggested measuring vertical electroseismic profile. Mikhailov et al. [11] measured the electric field converted from low frequency Stoneley waves in a borehole and made theoretical analysis. Seismoelectric logging method has been proposed to detect deep target formation. The advantage of seismoelectric logging is the distance both from transmitter to target formation and from the transmitter to the receiver is small, and signals can be received with relative high amplitude. Abstract: Switch mode power supply (SMPS) is good selection for power supplies of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), which is one of the most important interference sources of UAV. The power switches with their high dv/dt and di/dt switching slopes are the sources of electromagnetic interference (EMI). In this paper, a variable frequency modulation technology of the forward converter of UAV is presented, which is utilized in SMPS to improve electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In variable-frequency techniques, power (signal) is transmitted in power converter in wide-band mode in several frequencies that are constantly changing, the EMI spectral performance of the SMPS can be controlled with the modulating pattern and modulation method. The validity of the models and analyses are confirmed experimentally by using a dc/dc forward converter.

Abstract: The study aimed at investigating the neural mechanism of business moral decision-making. 15 participants were presented with a set of 96 dilemmas in business situation. Participants were required to decide between option 1 (more utilitarian decision for self benefit) and 2 (ethical decision for fairness or institution). ERPs were recorded to a slide displaying the letter 1 and 2 when subjects were deciding between options. The selection rate was calculated after the experiment as the behavior data. The business moral dilemmas prompted more ethical option. A larger P260 component was elicited in the left frontal lobe area when participants were deciding to act ethically. On the other hand, decisions on utilitarian aroused weaker emotional experience, as supported by the shorter LPC and smaller P260 amplitude.

Abstract: BCL-10 is an important functional and an apoptotic regulator gene inducing the organismic innate immunity. It has not been reported that the BCL-10 protein of porcine in normal level could motivate immune factor to produce. Bioinformatics analysis was performed to predict the characteristics of BCL-10, the results indicated that BCL-10 gene encoded a polypeptide, molecular mass of 45 Ku and comprising 233 amino acids. The prediction of secondary structure showed that BCL-10 had 9 alpha-helix, 1 beta-sheet, 12 turn and 14 random coil. The protein had twenty transmembrane regions, an CARD structure field which located in 15-100 amino acids and no signal peptide, the hydrophobic index was between -2.500 and 1.400. The phylogenetic tree showed that BCL-10 was similar to human (the homology index was >95%) and had a distant relationship to mouse. To identify the activity of BCL-10, the protein with a His-tag was expressed in E. coli Rosetta and purified. The purified protein showed an obvious effect of cell proliferation. Cloning and analysising of BCL-10 gene which laid foundation to further research and exploitation.

Abstract: The frequent attacks on network infrastructure, using various forms of denial of service attacks, have led to an increased need for developing new techniques for analyzing network traffic. If efficient analysis tools were available, it could become possible to detect the attacks and to take action to weaken those attacks appropriately before they have had time to propagate across the network. In this paper, we propose an SNMP MIB oriented approach for detecting attacks, which is based on two-tier GCT by analyzing causal relationship between attacking variable at the attacker and abnormal variable at the target. According to the abnormal behavior at the target, GCT is executed initially to determine preliminary attacking variable, which has whole causality with abnormal variable in network behavior. Depending on behavior feature extracted from abnormal behavior, we can recognize attacking variable by using GCT again, which has local causality with abnormal variable in local behavior. Proactive detecting rules can be constructed with the causality between attacking variable and abnormal variable, which can be used to give alarms in network management system. The results of experiment showed that the approach with two-tier GCT was proved to detect attacks early, with which attack propagation could be slowed through early detection.

Abstract: At present, it is urgent for us to build fully functional information security laboratory. In this paper, the function and requirements of a new information security lab are analyzed. And a construction scheme for information security laboratory is put forward. The lab not only provides services for teaching and training, but also provides security evaluation, authentication and extension services for local governments, institutions and enterprises. Our teaching and training practice shows that the scheme of such information security laboratory proposed in this paper is effective and reasonable.
