The Application of Language Awareness in College English Writing Teaching  [PDF]

Abstract: Language awareness refers to the understanding of language forms and functions, which is gradually formed by learners in the process of internalizing specific language knowledge. It is a mental activity that is not only abstract but also complex. English writing examines students’ comprehensive application of English knowledge, and is an indispensable part of English learning. The deficiency of students’ English writing part can be attributed to their lack of corresponding language awareness. This paper first expresses the importance of language awareness in English writing teaching, and then analyzes the main factors that influence the cultivation of college English language awareness, and finally puts forward the new model of college English writing teaching under the drive of language awareness.
Retreatment with Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitor After Initial Failure in Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Abstract: Background and objective The epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFRTKI) shows favorable antitumor activity against chemorefractory non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, patients with advanced NSCLC have limited treatment options available if they are refractory to EGFR-TKI. To study the influence of the retreatment EGFR-TKI after failure of first-line TKI, we carried out this retrospective study. Methods Total 71 patients were analyzed who experienced treatment failure from their initial use of EGFR-TKI. After a period of time, they were retreated with TKI as tumor progression was observed. Results Of the 71 patients who received retreatment TKI, it was observed in 7% in partial response (PR), 36.6% in stable disease (SD), 56.3% in progressive disease (PD). Disease control rate (DCR) was 43.7%. Twenty-six (36.6%) patients were well controlled by retreatment with TKI monotherapy for not less than 3 months. Five (7.0%) patients had partial response. Exon 21 mutation, PFS not less than 6 months during initial treatment TKI, and the interval not less than 3 months between initial treatment, and retreatment with TKI was associated with a good progression free survival based on univariate COX analysis (P=0.034; P=0.013; P=0.046). Conclusion It has been shown the possibility that retreatment with TKI might be useful when (1) Exon 21 has active mutation, (2) initial treatment shows a favorable PFS (≥ 6 months), and (3) there has been a period of time (≥3 months) following the termination of the initial TKI treatment.

Abstract: Gastrointestinal metastasis unusually occurs in primary lung cancer instead of lung, liver, brain, bone and adrenal. Recently, we has treated two patients with primary lung cancer metastasized to gastrointestinal system consequently. This paper will conduct the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up report and review related literature in order to deepen the understanding of rarely metastases of lung cancer to avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.
The Mechanism of Imported Iron Ore Price in China  [PDF]

Abstract: This study analyzes the relationship and the issues between iron ore market from demand and supply side. It empirically explains how and why the import iron ore price in China fluctuates through Baltic Dry Index, Dollar Index, iron ore production, volume of import iron ore, and also compares the forecast ability between Vector Error Corrected Model (VECM) and ARIMA model. This paper concludes the following finds. Firstly, there is no structural break and seasonality. The data are first degree stationary and have 1 cointegration relationship between variables. In addition, the impulse response function shows that the import iron ore price is positively sensitive to BDI and negatively sensitive to Dollar Index, and it reveals the fact that China has less power to influence the iron ore price even if it has been the largest buyer. Finally, forecast ability assessment shows that VECM outperforms ARIMA model.
Effect of Short-Term Synaptic Plasticity on Correlated firing in Feedback Networks

Abstract: The firing activity of a neuronal population is correlated, which has been linked to information coding and exchanging. Short-term synaptic plasticity allows synapses to increase (facilitate) or decrease (depress) over a wide range of time scales. It is critical to understand the characteristics and mechanisms of the correlated firing and the role of short-term synaptic plasticity in regulating firing activity. The short-term synaptic depression and facilitation are examined at the synapses in the inhibitory feedback loop of feedback neural networks. Numerical simulations reveal that the modulation of the correlated firing by dynamics of depression and facilitation is due to their effects on the synaptic strength. By varying synaptic time constants, the enhancement in either firing rate or intensity of oscillations can improve the correlated firing. Our study thus provides a general computational analysis of the sequential interaction of short-term plasticity with neuronal firing.
Understanding the link between consumer decision-making style and online apparel purchasing

Abstract: Online apparel consumption is becoming an indispensable consumer apparel buying patterns. Based on consumer purchase decision style theory and the technology acceptance model theory, using cluster analysis, structural equation model and other quantitative analysis tools, this paper try to find out how different decision-making styles making consumers behave different when they are shopping apparel online. The results show that there are three major purchasing decision style consumers, each type behave obviously different from the other two type of consumers. Finally, marketing strategies for online apparel are suggested.
The Association between EGFR Gene Amplification and the Prognosis in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer: A meta-analysis

Abstract: Background and objective Many studies concluded that epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene amplification might be related with the prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer. However, the results were not consistent. To identify whether EGFR gene amplification could affect the prognosis, a meta-analysis was conducted based on the published works. Methods According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, articles were selected from medical electronic databases searching, including PubMed, Cochrane library and CNKI. The qualities of included articles were scored based on the European Lung Cancer Working Party scale, and the hazard ratio (HR) and the 95% confidence interval (CI) were also collected. Meta-analysis was completed using software Review Manager 4.2. Results Forest plot from 12 studies in which 1 221 included patients were all treated with EGFR-TKI showed that the prognosis of patients harboring EGFR gene amplification were superior to negative ones (HR=0.82, 95%CI: 0.68-0.99, P=0.04), and for Caucasian patients who received EGFR-TKI, the survivals were longer in EGFR gene amplification positive cases than those without amplification (HR=0.42, 95%CI: 0.31-0.57, P < 0.001). Meta results from 8 studies in which 658 included patients did not receive EGFR-TKI indicated that the casualty hazard of amplification positive patients was comparable with negative ones. However, for Asia patients who failed to receive EGFR-TKI, the prognosis of patients with EGFR gene amplification were inferior to negative ones (HR=1.88, 95%CI: 1.21-2.93, P=0.005). Conclusion EGFR gene amplification may be a positive predictive factor in terms of survival for Caucasian patients receiving EGFR-TKI rather than Asia patients. However, the prognosis was inferior in Asia patients with EGFR amplification to those without the amplification, if they failed to receive EGFR-TKI.
Phosphorylated EGFR expression may predict outcome of EGFR-TKIs therapy for the advanced NSCLC patients with wild-type EGFR

Abstract: Background EGFR mutation is a strong predictive factor of EGFR-TKIs therapy. However, at least 10% of patients with EGFR wild-type are responsive to TKIs, suggesting that other determinants of outcome besides EGFR mutation might exist. We hypothesized that activation of phosphorylated EGFR could be a potential predictive biomarker to EGFR-TKIs treatment among patients in wild-type EGFR. Method Total of 205 stage IIIb and IV NSCLC patients, tissue samples of whom were available for molecular analysis, were enrolled in this study. The phosphorylation of EGFR at tyrosine 1068 (pTyr1068) and 1173 (pTyr1173) were assessed by immunohistochemistry, and EGFR mutations were detected by denaturing high performance liquid chromatograph (DHPLC). Results Among 205 patients assessable for EGFR mutation and phosphorylation analysis, 92 (44.9%) were EGFR mutant and 165 patients (57.6%) had pTyr1173 expression. Superior progression-free survival (PFS) was seen after EGFR-TKIs therapy in patients with pTyr1068 expression compared to pTyr1068 negative ones (median PFS 7.0 months vs. 1.2 months, P < 0.001). Inversely, patients with pTyr1173 had a shorter PFS (4.8 months VS. 7.7 months, P = 0.016). In subgroup of patients with wild-type EGFR, pTyr1068 expression positive ones had a significantly prolonged PFS (4.2 months vs.1.2 months P < 0.001) compared with those without pTyr1068 expression. Sixteen patients with both wild-type EGFR and pTyr1068 who responded to EGFR-TKIs had median PFS of 15.6 months (95%CI: 7.28-23.9). Conclusion pTyr1068 may be a predictive biomarker for screening the population for clinical response to EGFR-TKIs treatment; especially for patients with wild-type EGFR.
Association studies of several cholesterol-related genes (ABCA1, CETP and LIPC) with serum lipids and risk of Alzheimer’s disease

Abstract: Objectives Accumulating evidence suggested that dysregulation of cholesterol homeostasis might be a major etiologic factor in initiating and promoting neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), hepatic lipase (HL, coding genes named LIPC) and cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) are important components of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) metabolism and reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) implicated in atherosclerosis and neurodegenerative diseases. In the present study, we will investigate the possible association of several common polymorphisms (ABCA1R219K, CETPTaqIB and LIPC-250 G/A) with susceptibility to AD and plasma lipid levels. Methods Case–control study of 208 Han Chinese (104 AD patients and 104 non-demented controls) from Changsha area in Hunan Province was performed using the PCR-RFLP analysis. Cognitive decline was assessed using Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) as a standardized method. Additionally, fasting lipid profile and the cognitive testing scores including Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) were recorded. Results and conclusions We found significant differences among the genotype distributions of these three genes in AD patients when compared with controls. But after adjusting other factors, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed only ABCA1R219K (B = 0.903, P = 0.005, OR = 0.405, 95%CI:0.217-0.758) and LIPC-250 G/A variants(B = 0.905, P = 0.018, OR = 0.405, 95%CI:0.191-0.858) were associated with decreased AD risk. There were significantly higher levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and apolipoproteinA-I in the carriers of KK genotype and K allele (P < 0.05), and B2B2 genotype of CETP Taq1B showed significant association with higher HDL-C levels than other genotypes (F = 5.598, P = 0.004), while -250 G/A polymorphisms had no significant effect on HDL-C. In total population, subjects carrying ABCA1219K allele or LIPC-250A allele obtained higher MMSE or WMS scores than non-carriers, however, no significant association was observed in AD group or controls. Therefore, this preliminary study showed that the gene variants of ABCA1R219K and LIPC-250 G/A might influence AD susceptibility in South Chinese Han population, but the polymorphism of CETPTaq1B didn't show any association in despite of being a significant determinant of HDL-C.
Near-Ground Path Loss Measurements and Modeling for Wireless Sensor Networks at 2.4?GHz

Abstract: Near-ground channel characterization is an important issue in most military applications of wireless sensor networks. However, the channel at the ground level lacks characterization. In this paper, we present a path loss model for three near-ground scenarios. The path loss values for each scenario were captured through extensive measurements, and then a least-square linear regression was performed. This indicates that the log-distance-based model is still suitable for path loss modeling in near-ground scenarios, and the prediction accuracy of the two-slope model is superior to that of the one-slope model. The validity of the proposed model was further verified by comparisons between the predicted and measured far-field path losses. Finally, compared to the generic models, the proposed model is more effective for the path loss prediction in near-ground scenarios.
