A New Explanation of K. J. Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem: On Conditions of Social Welfare Functions  [PDF]

Abstract: Social welfare function theory belongs to the cross disciplines of economics, sociology, management science and political science. The social welfare function conditions were first proposed by Kenneth Joseph Arrow, and served as the golden criteria in this field. For a long time, “the expressions of these conditions are not satisfactory”, as Arrow said himself, and he has continued to revise them. The author of this article has attempted to structure a mathematical expression that would meet Arrow’s conditions. We found that the conditions of “unrestricted domain” and “independent alternatives independence” could not always be expressed simultaneously. This led us to conduct further research on the relationships among Arrow’s conditions. We find that there are logical conflicts among some of these conditions, and we discuss these issues in this article.
Intracranial aneurysm with neck indistinguishable from surrounding artery branches by cerebral angiography  [PDF]

The aim of this study is to examine morphology of intracranial aneurysm with neck indistinguishable from surrounding artery branches by cerebral angiography and discuss whether such aneurysms can be treated by interventional embolization. 6 patients who had not been treated by embolization due to irregular wide-necked aneurysms indistinguishable from surrounding artery branches by cerebral angiography received craniotomy for aneurysm clipping. The operations succeeded. Morphologically, neck width and location of the aneurysms were carefully observed and photographed from different directions and multi-angles during operation. The intraoperative findings were compared with the preoperative CTA and DSA images. Walls of the 6 patients’ aneurysms tightly clung to or adhered to surrounding branches and oppressed the branches into arcs, similar to the aneurysm walls in shape, and arterial branches and aneurysm walls suffered from segmental adhesion. In addition, abnormalities of communicating arteries to vary degrees were observed in 4 patients. However, after successful surgical clipping, it was revealed that the aneurysms would have been better treated by embolization since they are basically saccular aneurysms with regular sizes. Deformations in preoperative angiography may be due to anatomical variations of surrounding vessels near the aneurysms, aneurysm wall oppression or incomplete adhesion of surrounding arterial branches. Such deformations can be recognized by careful observation in preoperative angiography from different directions and multi-angles.


Better prediction of protein contact number using a support vector regression analysis of amino acid sequence

Abstract: We predict contact number from protein sequence using a novel support vector regression algorithm. Using protein local sequences with multiple sequence alignments (PSI-BLAST profiles), we demonstrate a correlation coefficient between predicted and observed contact numbers of 0.70, which outperforms previously achieved accuracies. Including additional information about sequence weight and amino acid composition further improves prediction accuracies significantly with the correlation coefficient reaching 0.73. If residues are classified as being either "contacted" or "non-contacted", the prediction accuracies are all greater than 77%, regardless of the choice of classification thresholds.The successful application of support vector regression to the prediction of protein contact number reported here, together with previous applications of this approach to the prediction of protein accessible surface area and B-factor profile, suggests that a support vector regression approach may be very useful for determining the structure-function relation between primary protein sequence and higher order consecutive protein structural and functional properties.Prediction of protein three-dimensional structure from primary sequence is the central problem in structural bioinformatics. Abstract: The law of the needing levels discovered by Maslow is a famous theory, but the theory mainly works in private domain. In this paper, the Maslow's law is deduced into public domain, putting on the idea of public Maslow's phenomena and the public maslow's law. By methods of theoretical analysis blended with positive analysis, quality analysis blended with quantity analysis, the ideas presented above have been tested and verified. In the end of the paper, it points out that public Maslow' s law is an important cause for the expanding of public department as well as for the rational expanding of government scale. Abstract: Family business is one of the things in the past, also is the existing way, the model of the future. Based on the 1420 private companies listed in China for 7 years (2006-2012), data statistical analysis found that with the increasing of the year, two rights separation degree of private enterprises were falling. As the change of the institutional environment, involved in the enterprise internal members of the family are increasing, and the source is also diversified. Listed on the mainland China for 717 family enterprises 7 years (2006-2012), the data of empirical test showed that the family members involved in the enterprise are advantageous to the family firm social emotional wealth preservation; the relationship of core family and family enterprise social emotional wealth behavior had a direct relationship. The improvement of the external institutional environment also be advantageous to the family enterprise social emotional wealth preservation, and the external environment will also be able to change influence of the family members involved in the enterprise to family enterprise social emotional wealth preservation behavior. The outbreak of the financial crisis eases the contradiction between the members of the family and the common crisis awareness, which shows the relationship between brothers and relatives and friends with the core family relationship (marriage) family members for the preservation of the family enterprise social emotional wealth which make greater contribution than the second direct generation.

Abstract: Recent results from BES and CLEOc experiments on hadron spectroscopy and charmonium decays using J/psi, psi' and psi'' data samples collected in e+e- annihilation are reviewed, including the observation of X(1835) in J/psi --> gamma pi+ pi- eta', study of the scalar particles in J/psi radiative and hadronic decays, as well as in chi_c0 hadronic decays, and the study of the ``\rho\pi puzzle'' in J/psi, psi', and psi'' decays. We also make a few comments on partial wave analysis, and the study of the \rho \pi puzzle.
Fast geometric gate operation of superconducting charge qubits in circuit QED

Abstract: A scheme for coupling superconducting charge qubits via a one-dimensional superconducting transmission line resonator is proposed. The qubits are working at their optimal points, where they are immune to the charge noise and possess long decoherence time. Analysis on the dynamical time evolution of the interaction is presented, which is shown to be insensitive to the initial state of the resonator field. This scheme enables fast gate operation and is readily scalable to multiqubit scenario.
Study of Charmonium(-like) States via ISR at Belle

Abstract: The cross sections for e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi, pi+pi-psi(2S), K+K-J/psi, DDbar, DDbar pi, D*Dbar, and D*D*bar are measured using data sample collected on or near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. A peak near 4.25 GeV/c^2, corresponding to the so called Y(4260), is observed in pi+pi-J/psi final state. In addition, there is another cluster of events at around 4.05 GeV/c^2. Two resonant structures are observed in the pi+pi-psi(2S) invariant mass distribution, one at 4361+-9+-9 MeV/c^2 with a width of 74+-15+-10 MeV/c^2, and another at 4664+-11+-5 MeV/c^2 with a width of 48+-15+-3 MeV/c^2. The rich structures observed in all these final states indicate that our understanding of the vector charmonium states above the open charm threshold is still poor, let alone the other possible dynamics such as charmonium hybrids or final state re-scattering and so on.
Detecting non-Abelian statistics of Majorana fermions in quantum nanowire networks

Abstract: We propose a scheme in semiconducting quantum nanowires structure to demonstrate the non-Abelian statistics for Majorana fermions in terms of braid group. The Majorana fermions are localized at the endpoints of semiconducting wires, which are deposited on an \emph{s}-wave superconductor. The non-Abelian nature of Majorana fermion is manifested by the fact that the output of the different applied orders of two operations, constructed by the braid group elements, are different. In particular, the difference can be unambiguously imprinted on the quantum states of a superconducting flux qubit.

Abstract: In this talk, we present the recent study on the charmoniumlike states from the e^+e^- colliders, including BESIII, Belle, BaBar, and CLEOc. The talk covers the X(3872) from the Y(4260) radiative transition, the Y states from the initial-state-radiation processes and from e+e- to pi+pi-h_c, and the charged Z_c states.
