Energy Portfolio Management with Entry Decisions over an Infinite Horizon  [PDF]

Abstract: We study a firm that has a conventional plant and considers introducing a new plant as an alternative to generate electricity. The firm’s decision includes the optimal entry time for the new plant, and the optimal dispatch between the existing plant and the new plant after it has been constructed to maximize the expected profit over an infinite time horizon. Under geometric Brownian motion, we formulate the problems as non-regular mixed optimal stopping/control problem. Due to the intractability of the mixed problem, we decompose it into two auxiliary problems, and characterize the optimal strategies in closed-form by standard value-matching and smooth-pasting conditions. Our numerical example confirms our theoretical results.

Abstract: Due to its convenience, wear ability, affinity, continuously monitoring biological signal, etc., fabric electrodes used in biological signal acquisition attracted more and more interest from researchers around the world. Fabric electrode is a kind of intelligent textiles, and its application is very prominent in biological signal acquisition, supercapacitors and ECG (electric signal) monitoring. There are many methods that can be used to prepare fabric electrodes. They are mainly metal plating, conductive polymer coating, magnetron sputtering, and gas phase deposition and impregnation. Besides, they select the appropriate substrate, conductive medium and composite way to get light fabric electrodes which have high conductivity and good conformability. Since the conductive properties of conductive polymers are weaker than those of metal, conductive polymer must undergo protonic acid doping. They can be polythiophene, polypyrrole, polyaniline, etc. However, at present, researchers commit more studies to metal or carbon-based electrodes. For example, a layer of silver film is platted on the fabric by magnetron sputtering to increase its conductivity. In this paper, the development of fabric electrodes was studied from several aspects, namely, the generation of biological signals, the overall design of the wearable monitoring systems, its classification, conductive principles, preparation of fabric electrode and application.
Nature of Controlling Stake, Manager Shareholding, and R&D Investment  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper makes an empirical analysis on influence relation of manager equity compensation on R&D investment under different nature of controlling stake by applying multivariate regression analysis and ordinary least square and taking China listed companies from 2007-2012 as samples. The study finds that in state controlled enterprises, management shareholding ratio has positive influence relation on R&D investment intensity; in non-state-controlled enterprises, management shareholding ratio has “range effect” influence relation on R&D investment intensity. The research of this paper can further expand existing relevant theory of corporate governance and R&D investment, and provide theoretical support and decision reference for enterprises to optimize compensation contract and correct R&D underinvestment.

Abstract: Wearable monitoring system is designed for skin stimulation of conductive adhesive, prolonged physiological monitoring and biocompatibility, whose core is fabric electrodes and it can feedback physiological status by analysis of abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG). Fabric electrode is a sensor to collect biological signals based on textile materials including signals acquisition, processing systems and information feedback platform and so on. In this paper, the design methods and classification of medical electrodes would be introduced. It also sorted out the principle of biological electrical signals, the design methods and characteristics of different material and different structure electrodes from the point of dry electrodes and wet electrodes. There are many methods that can be used to prepare fabric electrodes. They are mainly metal plating, conductive polymer coating, magnetron sputtering, gas phase deposition and impregnation. Besides, they select the appropriate substrate, conductive medium and composite way to get light fabric electrodes which have high conductivity, good conformability. From the perspective of biological signal acquisition by fabric electrodes, this paper also sorted out the influence and approaches of biological signals and the way to feedback the physiological condition of human. As a new generation of bio-signal acquisition material, fabric electrode has met the requirements of the development of modern medicine. Fabric electrode is different from traditional conductive materials in the characteristics of comfort, intelligence, convenience, accuracy and so on.
Distribution and Pollution Assessment of Heavy Metals in Beidaihe Near-Shore Marine Sediments  [PDF]

Abstract:

The concentrations of heavy metals, Cd, Hg, Pb, Cu and As in marine sediments from 138 sites located in the Beidaihe near-shore area of Bohai bay, were analyzed to find out the distribution characteristics of these heavy metals. Potential Ecological Risk index were adopted to assess the heavy metals contamination, and the assessment results indicated that the content of heavy metals in this area is in a low to moderate level, while high values were found in the southwest and northeast region, and the value in the middle region is comparatively low. The high pollution hazard sites were close to the Renzaohe estuary and Shihe estuary and the high risk is mainly led by Hg.

Abstract: The intention of this paper is to conclude the management approach by the case study of Chinese enterprise. There are a lot of management approaches in practice, one of the most influential and famous one is management by objective which is invented by the father of modern management discipline Peter F Drucker, he observed the case of American most successful enterprise such as GM and then concluded and created the relevant meaningful management tools, in effect, such valuable management theory is stemmed from the practice of management, and the premise is that there must have great enterprise first then the effective management way could be concluded, therefore, many management theories are created in America because that the US have many great organizations other countries did not have at that time. However, after more than thirty years’ efforts and accumulation of the development of reform and openingup in China, it is our pride that such accumulation has lead to a lot of successful enterprises in China, one of such great companies is Alibaba, which is created at the right time and the right place. Alibaba is chosen because that the reason of its success is different with other enterprises in China and even in the world, it is a company which never place high value on benefit, however, it is more successful than any other companies which are benefit-oriented, by the case study we find out that the secret of its success is nothing but an innovational practice of management, that is, Management by Values (MBV). As it is shown in this paper: Alibaba, the mission of which is to create easy way to trade anywhere. Such visionary mission gives Alibaba a dream of unlimited growth space, but only the mission itself is not enough, effective management by values helps Alibaba to realize this potential. Kernelized Deep Convolutional Neural Network for Describing Complex Images

Abstract: With the impressive capability to capture visual content, deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) have demon- strated promising performance in various vision-based ap- plications, such as classification, recognition, and objec- t detection. However, due to the intrinsic structure design of CNN, for images with complex content, it achieves lim- ited capability on invariance to translation, rotation, and re-sizing changes, which is strongly emphasized in the s- cenario of content-based image retrieval. In this paper, to address this problem, we proposed a new kernelized deep convolutional neural network. We first discuss our motiva- tion by an experimental study to demonstrate the sensitivi- ty of the global CNN feature to the basic geometric trans- formations. Then, we propose to represent visual content with approximate invariance to the above geometric trans- formations from a kernelized perspective. We extract CNN features on the detected object-like patches and aggregate these patch-level CNN features to form a vectorial repre- sentation with the Fisher vector model. The effectiveness of our proposed algorithm is demonstrated on image search application with three benchmark datasets.
SimNP: A Flexible Platform for the Simulation of Network Processing Systems  [PDF]

Abstract: Network processing plays an important role in the development of Internet as more and more complicated applications are deployed throughout the network. With the advent of new platforms such as network processors (NPs) that incorporate novel architectures to speedup packet processing, there is an increasing need for an efficient method to facilitate the study of their performance. In this paper, we present a tool called SimNP, which provides a flexible platform for the simulation of a network processing system in order to provide information for workload characterization, architecture development, and application implementation. The simulator models several architectural features that are commonly employed by NPs, including multiple processing engines (PEs), integrated network interface and memory controller, and hardware accelerators. ARM instruction set is emulated and a simple memory model is provided so that applications implemented in high level programming language such as C can be easily compiled into an executable binary using a common compiler like gcc. Moreover, new features or new modules can also be easily added into this simulator. Experiments have shown that our simulator provides abundant information for the study of network processing systems.
A Mobile-Agent-Based Adaptive Data Fusion Algorithm for Multiple Signal Ensembles in Wireless Sensor Networks  [PDF]

Abstract: Distributed Compressed Sensing (DCS) is an emerging field that exploits both intra- and inter-signal correlation structures and enables new distributed coding algorithms for multiple signal ensembles in wireless sensor networks. The DCS theory rests on the joint sparsity of a multi-signal ensemble. In this paper we propose a new mobile-agent-based Adaptive Data Fusion (ADF) algorithm to determine the minimum number of measurements each node required for perfectly joint reconstruction of multiple signal ensembles. We theoretically show that ADF provides the optimal strategy with as minimum total number of measurements as possible and hence reduces communication cost and network load. Simulation results indicate that ADF enjoys better performance than DCS and mobile-agent-based full data fusion algorithm including reconstruction performance and network energy efficiency.

Abstract: While Role-Based Access Control Model (RBAC) is being analyzed, the concept of Role of Time-domain Based Access Control Model (T-RBAC) is put forward. With time-domain added, both time-domain and authority control roles. The basic idea of T-RBAC is introduced and described formally, and the safely of this model is analyzed. The research shows that T-RBAC fulfills both rules of information security, which are principle of least privilege and separation of duties. With practical application of T-RBCA, it can handle most of the time-related or authority-related problems. What’s more, it also increases the security level, flexibility and dynamic adaptation of the system and has lower complexity than system only handled by authority. This model also can solve conflicts caused by authority.
