Numerical Study of Low-Loss Cross Left-Handed Metamaterials at Visible Frequency

Abstract: We present a numerical study of left-handed metamaterials (LHMs) composed of double cross pairs at visible frequency. The S-parameter retrieval method is adopted to confirm the negative refractive characteristic of this design. Compared with fishnet LHMs, the proposed cross LHMs have a much lower loss, which will greatly facilitate practical applications. It is also found that, with the same size of resonant cells, the cross LHMs have a higher frequency than fishnet LHMs, which is explained using a simple effective LC circuit model.

The defect effect in the two-dimensional negative permeability material

Abstract: The defect effect in the two_dimensional (2D) negative permeability material, consisting of copper hexagon split ring resonators (SRRs), is investigated. The printed circuit boards with SRRs on one side are fabricated using a shadow mask/etching technique. We use a rectangular waveguide system to measure the X_band transmission in 2D negative permeability materials with different dot and line defects. The measured data shows that there is only one resonance frequency and high quality factor \%Q\% for a 2D negative permeability material without defects. The main resonance frequency has a shift and the resonant peak value decreases when the defect SRRs are introduced into the samples. We consider that the defect SRRs break the periodic structure of the samples, which results in the shift of the main resonance frequency and the resonant intensity. The investigation of the defect effects is important not only for the understanding of the characterisfics of the negative permeability material, but also for the realization of the left_handed metamaterials in the infrared and visible region.
Preparation and Electrorheological Effect of Titanium Oxide/Acrylamide Doped with Cr Ions

Abstract: The modified hydrolysis method was employed to prepare modified TiOx/acrylamide particles doped with chromium ions. XRD, TEM and particle size characterization results indicate that the particles are amorphous, and the average particle size is 140nm. The ERF possesses an optimum property when the Cr/Ti molar rate is 10%, under 4kV/mm DC electric field, the static shear stress can reach 152kPa. The mechanic property of ERF is enhanced remarkably due to the good wettability between particle and silicon oil, which results from the decrease of particle size caused by the synergetic effect of employment of Cr ions and SDBS synchronously. The ERF also shows a very good dispersion stability.

Abstract: 对于平面中的椭圆夹杂,当本征(或无应力)应变εij*为位置x,y的线性函数时,夹杂内的拘束应变εijC亦为位置的线性函数。本文给出了全部的一级拘束系数。在椭圆的轴比β足够小时,我们还得到了夹杂外部场的解析表达式。本文结果可直接应用于处理一些实际问题,例如裂纹在弯曲加载条件下的行为,以及片状夹杂与微裂纹的相互作用等。

Abstract: 制作了一维周期排列的亥姆霍兹共振器超材料,在空气环境下测试了其在可听声频段声学透射行为.实验结果表明,在2.1—3.5 kHz附近该材料具有透射衰减的吸收峰,利用声传输线理论(ATLM)计算的透射率和实验结果一致,同时由计算的等效阻抗分析可知,实验中出现的吸收峰是由HRs共振的回波反射引起的.另外,实验测试的样品中透射信号分布进一步验证了材料的共振效应,也就是会出现与外加激励反相响应.基于前述的共振模型计算出该材料的等效弹性模量为负.
Tunable split ring resonator and its effect

Abstract: It has been theoretically and experimentally shown that split ring resonators (SRRs) can be used as a negative permeability medium near its magnetic resonance frequency. In this paper, a new structure for magnetic resonance has been designed by introducing a short wire into the common SRRs. The effects of short wire on the transmission characteristics of SRRs and left-handed metamaterials (LHMs) are experimentally and numerically investigated. The results show that an additional capacitor, formed by short wire and the gap side of SRR, leads to higher capacitance around the gap and lower the resonance frequency of SRRs. The resonance frequency of SRRs decreases with the length of short wire, but increases with the distance between short wire and SRRs. The short wire has no significant influence on the negative permeability of SRR. It is also demonstrated that the left-handed transmission peak, negative permeability, antiresonance frequency of permittivity and negative refractive index of LHMs could be tuned by controlling the distance between the short wire and the SRR.

Tunable Effect of Double-Connective Dendritic Left-Handed Metamaterials Based on Electrorheological Fluids

Abstract: We present double-connective dendritic unit pairs which exhibit the left-handed property for electromagnetic wave normal incidence. Based on the tunable characteristics of electrorheological fluids (ERF) as the electric field, we experimentally study the influence of the distance of electrodes, the number of stacked layers, and the intensity of the external electric field upon the ERF to the left-handed transmission peak of the double-connective dendritic structure. The results show that the transmission could be enhanced with the increase of distance or the number of layers. Furthermore, by changing the intensity of the electric fields, the left-handed transmission peak can be modulated actively, and the maximum shift is up to 160MHz.
