Application of PBL Bilingual Teaching Method in Clinical Probation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics  [PDF]

Abstract: Objective: To explore the effect of the problem-based learning (PBL) bilingual teaching model in clinical probation of gynecology and obstetrics. Method: Students in grade 2013 and grade 2014 in the gynecology and obstetrics department were enrolled in this study. 37 students in grade 2013 received a lesson taught using the traditional bilingual teaching model, in which the teacher leads the course. 42 grade 2014 students were taught a similar lesson using the PBL bilingual teaching model in which student group discussions drive the class. In this model, students receive a lecture a week before receiving an English case study. The students discuss the case studies within smaller groups, present the case to the class and then discuss the case with other groups in a classroom discussion. The teachers provide supplemental information as needed. Following the lesson, the effectiveness of each teaching method was evaluated by written theoretical examination and questionnaire survey. Results: Students taught with the PBL bilingual method scored significantly higher in basic knowledge, case analysis and treatment selection than students taught with the bilingual method alone (P < 0.05; Table 1). Students taught with the PBL bilingual method reported experiencing greater interest in learning, and improved independent learning, English speaking, and collaboration skills than those taught with the bilingual teaching method (P < 0.05). There was no statistical difference between the two teaching methods with respect to critical thinking and problem-solving skills (P > 0.05; Table 2) Conclusion: The PBL bilingual teaching model improves the learning and comprehension, strengthens critical thinking and problem solving skills and improves English speaking skills in gynecology and obstetrics medical students.
A Hybrid Genetic Scheduling Algorithm to Heterogeneous Distributed System  [PDF]

Abstract: In parallel and distributed computing, development of an efficient static task scheduling algorithm for directed acyclic graph (DAG) applications is an important problem. The static task scheduling problem is NP-complete in its general form. The complexity of the problem increases when task scheduling is to be done in a heterogeneous environment, consisting of processors with varying processing capabilities and network links with varying bandwidths. List scheduling algorithms are generally preferred since they generate good quality schedules with less complexity. But these list algorithms leave a lot of room for improvement, especially when these algorithms are used in specialized heterogeneous environments This paper presents an hybrid genetic task scheduling algorithm for the tasks run on the network of heterogeneous systems and represented by Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs). First, the algorithm assigns a coupling factor to each task to present the tasks should be scheduled onto the same processor by avoiding the large communication time. Second, the algorithm generate some high quality initial solution by scheduling the tasks which are strongly coupled with each other onto the same processor, and improve the quality of the solution by using coupling initial solutions, random solution, near optimal solutions obtained by the list scheduling algorithm in the crossover and mutation operator. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated by comparing with the existing effectively scheduling algorithms.

Abstract: Command system is the core part in responding large-scale emergencies. Central government needs to integrate social resources in constructing command system rapidly. Social resources from military, enterprises, government and non-government organization should be integrated in command system which includes situational awareness system, communication system and decision system. The architectures of these systems are described in turn. Military command system should be the main part and backbone in large-scale emergencies.
Comparative Epigenetic Analyses of Acute and Chronic Leukemia  [PDF]

Abstract:

Comparative analysis of epigenetic alterations between acute vs. chronic leukemia, with an emphasis on histone modifications, was conducted. We focus on the promoter regions of the whole genomes as well as oncogenes. Our results revealed that obvious differential histone modifications pattern exists between the two subtypes. H3K27ac has a high tag density in the promoter region in both Dnd41 cell lines and K562 cell lines. H3K27ac and H3K4me1 have high correlation between the two cell lines of oncogenes. Similar results were also achieved in the promoter region of high expression genes in the Jurkat and K562 cell lines based on RNA-seq data. This suggests that H2K27ac and H3K4me1 are active regulators in leukemia cell lines.

Abstract:

Rivers which are important objects in real world need be appropriately described in Geographic Information System to be conveniently inquired and detailed analyzed for human being. Many spatial models were proposed in the past, but spatial models with regard to river channel plan- forms (RCPs) are lesser-known. This work proposes spatial models of river channel planforms (SMRCPs) based on the properties of river channel planforms in the real world and the spatial relation theory. We proposed the segment conditions based on RCPs properties in Geographic Information System to describe rivers in the real world by SMRCPs in detail.

Abstract: Vitamin D is responsible for enhancing intestinal absorption of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate and zinc by involving in the metabolism. However, its use in additive field is limited by its low aqueous solubility and chemical stability. So trace amounts of VD3 was wrapped in β-CD molecule by the method of saturated aqueous vacuum drying, in order to improve its stability, uniformity and solubility in food and feed additive. The inclusion complex was characterized by NMR, IR techniques and compared with original VD3 in the aspect of stability and bioavailability. Results of orthogonal design experiments show that the optimum technology of inclusion is that the feed ratio of β-CD to VD3 is 15:1, being stirred for 5 hours at 80°C.?Dispersion of VD3 in the inclusion complex is more uniform, while stability and absorption rate of inclusion complex are significantly higher than original VD3.

Abstract: Objective: To study the effect of practicing Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi on subhealth problems including depression, anxiety, and memory loss. Methods: 1) 80 cases with subhealth problem were randomly divided into two groups. 40 cases practicing Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi were used as test group, and the other 40 unpracticing cases were used as control group. 2) The test group was practising Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi one hour in the morning five times per week for three months. 3) Scores of subhealth status such as depression and anxiety were evaluated once every two weeks, while the memory test was performed once a month. 4) Data analysis: SPSS11.0 software was used for statistical analyses. Data were shown in mean ± SEM. Difference was considered significant if the t-test P value is less than 0.05. Results: 1) Scores of subhealth state and depression were significantly lower in test group than those of control group. The beneficial effects of practicing Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi were more obvious for the subjects in the test group who had practiced Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi for two to twelve weeks (P < 0.05). 2) Scores of anxiety test were significantly lower in test group than those of control group after practicing Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi for six to twelve weeks (P < 0.05). 3) Scores of memory were significantly higher in test group than those of control group (P < 0.05). Conclusions: 1) Practicing Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi could promote health in people who have subhealth mental problems. 2) Practicing Jianshenqigong-wuqinxi could relieve depression, anxiety while enhance memory.
Compensation of Finite Bandwidth Effect by Using an Optimal Filter in Photoacoustic Imaging  [PDF]

Abstract:

Most existing reconstruction algorithms for photoacoustic imaging (PAI) assume that transducers used to receive ultrasound signals have infinite bandwidth. When transducers with finite bandwidth are used, this assumption may result in reduction of the imaging contrast and distortions of reconstructed images. In this paper, we propose a novel method to compensate the finite bandwidth effect in PAI by using an optimal filter in the Fourier domain. Simulation results demonstrate that the use of this method can improve the contrast of the reconstructed images with finite-bandwidth ultrasound transducers.


The Impact of Listening Strategy on Listening Comprehension

Abstract: Successful FL learners are characterized by knowing how to use language learning strategies effectively. This article reports a study of the effect of strategy training on listening comprehension. In the study, 56 intermediate foreign language learners at Shandong Economic College were either participants in a strategies-based instructional treatment or were comparison students receiving the regular listening course. Data were obtained and analyzed through the performance of a set of three listening tasks on a pre-post basis by both groups. The subsample of twelve students also provided verbal report data to show their cognitive insights into strategy use and the instruction itself. It was found that the increased use of listening strategy contributed positively to listening comprehension, which led to the implication that formal strategy training should have a role in the foreign language listening classroom.
