A Consensus Modeling Approach for the Determination of Stratum Corneum Thickness Using In-Vivo Confocal Raman Spectroscopy  [PDF]

Abstract: The measurement of stratum corneum (SC) thickness from in-vivo Raman water concentration depth profiles is gaining in popularity and appeal due to the availability and ease of use of in-vivo confocal Raman measurement systems. The foundation of these measurements relies on high-quality confocal Raman spectroscopy of skin and the robust numerical analysis of water profiles, which allow for accurate determination of SC thickness. These measurements are useful for studying intrinsic skin hydration profiles at different body sites and for determining hydration properties of skin related to topically applied materials. While the use of high-quality in-vivo Raman instrumentation has become routine and its use for SC thickness measurement widely reported, there is lack of agreement as to the best method of computing SC thickness values from Raman water profiles. Several methods have been proposed and are currently in use for such computations, but none of these methods has been critically evaluated. The work reported in this paper describes a new method for the determination of stratum corneum thickness from in-vivo confocal Raman water profiles. The method represents a consensus approach to the problem, which was found necessary to apply in order to properly model and quantify the large diversity of water profile types encountered in typical in-vivo Raman water measurement. The methodology is evaluated for performance using three criteria: 1) frequency of minimum fitting error on modeling to a standard numerical function; 2) frequency of minimum model error for consensus vs. individual SC thickness values; and 3) correlation with reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) values for SC thickness. The correlation study shows this approach to be a reasonable replacement for the more tedious and time-consuming RCM method with R2 = 0.68 and RMS error = 3.7 microns over the three body sites tested (cheek, forearm and leg).

Abstract: Let R be a 2-torsion free sigma-prime ring with an involution sigma, I a nonzero sigma-ideal of R. In this paper we explore the commutativity of R satisfying any one of the properties: (i)d(x) F(y) = 0 for all x, y ∈ I. (ii) [d(x),F(y)] = 0 for all x,y ∈ I. (iii) d(x) F(y) = x y for all x, y ∈ I. Abstract: 矿产资源作为人类社会经济发展的重要依赖和支撑,在当前经济发展对其需求激增同已探明矿产资源日益减少的矛盾加剧的形势下,其战略意义愈发凸显。本文基于ISI WoK论文数据库(SCI-E/SSCI)和Derwent专利数据库(DII),利用TDA、Aureka和UCINET等分析工具对2000年-2008年间矿产资源领域研究及专利文献进行分析,系统揭示近10年以来矿产资源领域科学研究与技术的发展态势、关注热点及其分布格局。结果显示,矿产资源领域科学研究与技术研发活动主要集中于矿产资源大国和传统技术强国;科学研究主体主要为国立研究机构和大学,而技术研发则集中于公共研究机构和企业;科学研究主要关注矿石采选方法及工艺、尾矿处理、矿床地球化学及矿物学分析以及矿山环境保护等方向;技术研发集中面向开采、掘进及井下基础工程技术、计算机控制、测量以及检测与探测技术;科学研究和技术研发整体呈现先进技术和方法研究及开发不断拓展,应用范围持续扩大的态势。整体来看,我国在矿产资源领域的科学研究与技术研发均较为活跃,科学技术产出持续增长,发展潜力巨大。

Abstract: 通过在错误信念任务中,为儿童提供关于错误信念表征的特定句法,考察这种句法理解对儿童的错误信念理解成绩是否有促进作用。124名3~4岁幼儿参加实验,每个年龄组幼儿随机分配到零级提示,一级提示和二级提示等三个句法提示条件组,并完成4个错误信念任务。结果发现,一级提示条件和二级提示条件下的错误信念理解成绩显著高于零级提示条件下的错误信念理解成绩,而一级和二级两种提示条件之间没有显著差异。句法提示对不同的错误信念任务的影响是相同的,对错误信念的预测问题和解释问题的影响模式是一致的。表明对错误信念表征的特定句法提示,有效促进了儿童的错误信念成绩,提示这种句法结构可能有助于儿童的错误信念理解。

Abstract: Desulfuration of organic wastewater containing sulfate was realized by transforming the sulfate to elementary sulfur in a micro-aerobic condition resulted from intermittence aeration, in which sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and colorless sulfur bacteria (CSB) kept symbiotic. The effect of oxygen amount on the reduction of SRB and oxidization of CSB was investigated. The optimal aeration intensity and hydraulic retention time under which the maximum ratio of elementary sulfur to the amount of total sulfur occurred were found. The results indicated that, for an influent with COD/SO42-=2 000/1 500 mg/L, after being processed in such a system with the aeration switching time of 2 s/2 min and biochemical time of 10 h, the maximum productivity of elemental sulfur of 89.53% was achieved, with the minimum sulfate concentration of 72.7 mg/L, and a sulfate reduction rate of 95.1%.

Abstract: This paper makes an analysis on model base and the integration method of GIS and application models based on model base. After making a comparison on the integration method of model base with other old integration methods, the authors bring up a new scheme on integration of GIS and application models: spatial decision support model base system driven by intelligence. The new system is supported by data base, model base and knowledge base technique. The paper makes an analysis from how to build knowledge base serving model base, the decision flowsupported by intelligent model base and so on. It also gives an instance of basin environment pollution management based on intelligent model base system, which validates the feasibility and validity of the new model integration method.

Abstract: Aberrant changes in specific glycans have been shown to be associated with immunosurveillance, tumorigenesis, tumor progression and metastasis. In this study, the N-glycan profiling of membrane proteins from human breast cancer cell lines and tissues was detected using modified DNA sequencer-assisted fluorophore-assisted carbohydrate electrophoresis (DSA-FACE). The N-glycan profiles of membrane proteins were analyzed from 7 breast cancer cell lines and MCF 10A, as well as from 100 pairs of breast cancer and corresponding adjacent tissues. The results showed that, compared with the matched adjacent normal tissue samples, two biantennary N-glycans (NA2 and NA2FB) were significantly decreased (p <0.0001) in the breast cancer tissue samples, while the triantennary glycan (NA3FB) and a high-mannose glycan (M8) were dramatically increased (p = 0.001 and p <0.0001, respectively). Moreover, the alterations in these specific N-glycans occurred through the oncogenesis and progression of breast cancer. These results suggested that the modified method based on DSA-FACE is a high-throughput detection technology that is suited for analyzing cell surface N-glycans. These cell surface-specific N-glycans may be helpful in recognizing the mechanisms of tumor cell immunologic escape and could be potential targets for new breast cancer drugs.
