TV-Based Caring Videophone System for the Elderly in the Smart Home Environment

Abstract: A novel videophone system for the elderly-care application is proposed. Based on the detailed analysis of the elderly’s physical and psychological characteristics, a TV-based caring videophone system for the elderly is developed: an embedded multimedia device is designed to implement the interactive video and audio processing and IP-based communication, in which TV is adopted as the display terminal to achieve a low-cost but high-quality service. Considering the user’s convenience, many personalized designs, such as photo-based address book, photo-click-dialing, and touch pad based remote controller, are developed to make the proposed videophone system more intuitive and easy to use for the elderly. Based on Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms, an evaluation model is also developed with the data collected from the embedded multimedia device. It is useful to evaluate the physical and psychological health of the elderly. 1. Introduction As the age of the world general population increases, more and more elderly people are staying alone. Statics indicate that the population that is 65 years or older throughout the world is steadily on the raise [1, 2]. It is estimated that by 2030 this particular group will be over four hundred million in China. Thus, the number of the elderly living alone will keep increasing substantially. Therefore the importance of elderly care in their own home as long as possible is crucial [3, 4]. And the smart home elderly care has the potential to be a cost-effective alternative, capable of providing quality health care and monitoring households for the elderly [5–7]. Various elderly-care approaches have been proposed recently. In [8], the authors proposed a sensor/actuator networks in smart homes for supporting the elderly and handicapped people. In [9], the authors analyzed the data of the questionnaire study and found that the rest rooms/bathrooms and kitchens inconvenient and even dangerous places for the elderly. In [10], the authors introduced the sensor technologies integrated in the smart home system for the elderly and developed a framework for the processing and communication of the extracted information. In [11], the authors suggested a smart home monitoring system based on intelligent wireless sensors network to provide a safe, sound, and secured living environment to the elderly. However, most the above approaches require sensors to be attached on the subjects under surveillance. It is inconvenient for the elderly taking the clothes with these sensors. Abstract: 针对仅认证方法无法检测到不在随机选择集合中的被感染节点,提出一种改进方法,应用序贯概率比分析(SPRA)和远程软件认证以检测蠕虫传播.首先,利用检测器观察无线传感器网络中的通信模式,识别正常流量中不会出现的连接链;然后,当探测器节点检测到蠕虫传播模式,则发起远程软件认证,且区域节点通过SPRA协作捕捉蠕虫传播.仿真结果验证了所提方法的有效性.与仅认证方法和支持向量回归(SVR)方法相比,所提方法的蠕虫检测鲁棒性更好.在蠕虫环境下,进行蠕虫检测和阻止所需的认证次数高于仅认证方法,低于SVR方法,总体开销较低.

Abstract: 利用高阶累积量(HOS)的性质推导出了一种根据三阶累积量求图象特征集的“不变性”算法。得出的二维特征集,不但具有对图象的平移、旋转和比例变化的不变性、对附加高斯噪声的抑制作用、不存在相位丢失问题(它是关于图象信息的全描述),而且不需要进行对数坐标的傅氏变换,因而计算简化、实时性高。仿真试验结果证明了该方法的有效性
Simultaneous Acquisition of Multi-nuclei Enhanced NMR/MRI by Solution State Dynamic Nuclear Polarization

Abstract: Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) has become a very important hyperpolarization method because it can dramatically increase the sensitivity of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) of various molecules. Liquid-state DNP based on Overhauser effect is capable of directly enhancing polarizations of all kinds of nuclei in the system. The combination of simultaneous Overhauser multi-nuclei enhancements with the multi-nuclei parallel acquisitions provides a variety of important applications in both MR spectroscopy (MRS) and image (MRI). Here we present two simple illustrative examples for simultaneously enhanced multi-nuclear spectra and images to demonstrate the principle and superiority. We have observed very large simultaneous DNP enhancements for different nuclei, such as 1H and 23Na, 1H and 31P, 19F and 31P, especially for the first time to report sodium ion enhancement in liquid. We have also obtained the simultaneous imaging of 19H and 31P at low field by solution-state DNP for the first time. This method can obtain considerably complementary structure-determination information of miscellaneous biomolecules from a single measurement. It can also be used in combination with the fast acquisition schemes and quantitative analysis with reduced scan time.
Tree-based Visualization and Optimization for Image Collection

Abstract: The visualization of an image collection is the process of displaying a collection of images on a screen under some specific layout requirements. This paper focuses on an important problem that is not well addressed by the previous methods: visualizing image collections into arbitrary layout shapes while arranging images according to user-defined semantic or visual correlations (e.g., color or object category). To this end, we first propose a property-based tree construction scheme to organize images of a collection into a tree structure according to user-defined properties. In this way, images can be adaptively placed with the desired semantic or visual correlations in the final visualization layout. Then, we design a two-step visualization optimization scheme to further optimize image layouts. As a result, multiple layout effects including layout shape and image overlap ratio can be effectively controlled to guarantee a satisfactory visualization. Finally, we also propose a tree-transfer scheme such that visualization layouts can be adaptively changed when users select different "images of interest". We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach through the comparisons with state-of-the-art visualization techniques.
Improved Image Deblurring based on Salient-region Segmentation

Abstract: Image deblurring techniques play important roles in many image processing applications. As the blur varies spatially across the image plane, it calls for robust and effective methods to deal with the spatially-variant blur problem. In this paper, a Saliency-based Deblurring (SD) approach is proposed based on the saliency detection for salient-region segmentation and a corresponding compensate method for image deblurring. We also propose a PDE-based deblurring method which introduces an anisotropic Partial Differential Equation (PDE) model for latent image prediction and employs an adaptive optimization model in the kernel estimation and deconvolution steps. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
Intra-and-Inter-Constraint-based Video Enhancement based on Piecewise Tone Mapping

Abstract: Video enhancement plays an important role in various video applications. In this paper, we propose a new intra-and-inter-constraint-based video enhancement approach aiming to 1) achieve high intra-frame quality of the entire picture where multiple region-of-interests (ROIs) can be adaptively and simultaneously enhanced, and 2) guarantee the inter-frame quality consistencies among video frames. We first analyze features from different ROIs and create a piecewise tone mapping curve for the entire frame such that the intra-frame quality of a frame can be enhanced. We further introduce new inter-frame constraints to improve the temporal quality consistency. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm obviously outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms.

14-3-3ζ Interacts with Stat3 and Regulates Its Constitutive Activation in Multiple Myeloma Cells

Abstract: The 14-3-3 proteins are a family of regulatory signaling molecules that interact with other proteins in a phosphorylation-dependent manner and function as adapter or scaffold proteins in signal transduction pathways. One family member, 14-3-3ζ, is believed to function in cell signaling, cycle control, and apoptotic death. A systematic proteomic analysis done in our laboratory has identified signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (Stat3) as a novel 14-3-3ζ interacting protein. Following our initial finding, in this study, we provide evidence that 14-3-3ζ interacts physically with Stat3. We further demonstrate that phosphorylation of Stat3 at Ser727 is vital for 14-3-3ζ interaction and mutation of Ser727 to Alanine abolished 14-3-3ζ/Stat3 association. Inhibition of 14-3-3ζ protein expression in U266 cells inhibited Stat3 Ser727 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation, and decreased both Stat3 DNA binding and transcriptional activity. Moreover, 14-3-3ζ is involved in the regulation of protein kinase C (PKC) activity and 14-3-3ζ binding to Stat3 protects Ser727 dephosphorylation from protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A). Taken together, our findings support the model that multiple signaling events impinge on Stat3 and that 14-3-3ζ serves as an essential coordinator for different pathways to regulate Stat3 activation and function in MM cells.

Abstract: We studied the effects of Catharsius molossus(a Chinese medicinal insect) on the cell growth,fermentation kinetics of key bioactive substances and anti-cancer activity of Ganoderma lucidum in submerged fermentation.The results showed that C.molossus at all the tested concentrations had no stimulatory effect on the cell growth.However,addition of C.molossus at 5 g/L lead to significant effects on the fermentation kinetics of polysaccharides and triterpenoids of G.lucidum,and at 7th day in fermentation proces...
