MWCNT-Based Ag2S-TiO2 Nanocomposites Photocatalyst: Ultrasound-Assisted Synthesis, Characterization, and Enhanced Catalytic Efficiency

Abstract: Multiwalled carbon nanotube based nanoscale Ag2S and TiO2 composites have successfully synthesized via a facile ultrasound-assisted method. The nanocomposites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption spectra, BET surface area measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The Ag2S-TiO2/CNT nanocomposites exhibited much higher photocatalytic activity than pure TiO2 for the degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh.B) under UV and visible light. The improved photocatalytic activities may be attributed to increased adsorbability of Rh.B molecules and increased charge transfer rate in the presence of a one-dimensional MWCNT network.
Preparation, characterization and photocatalytic behavior of WO3-fullerene/TiO2 catalysts under visible light

Abstract: WO3-treated fullerene/TiO2 composites (WO3-fullerene/TiO2) were prepared using a sol-gel method. The composite obtained was characterized by BET surface area measurements, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and UV-vis analysis. A methyl orange (MO) solution under visible light irradiation was used to determine the photocatalytic activity. Excellent photocatalytic degradation of a MO solution was observed using the WO3-fullerene, fullerene-TiO2, and WO3-fullerene/TiO2 composites under visible light. An increase in photocatalytic activity was observed, and WO3-fullerene/TiO2 has the best photocatalytic activity; it may attribute to the increase of the photo-absorption effect by the fullerene and the cooperative effect of the WO3.

Abstract: ?Aseriesofgraphene-TiO2compositeswasfabricatedfromgrapheneoxideandtitaniumn-butoxide(TNB)byanultrasonic-assistedmethod.ThestructureandcompositionofthenanocompositeswerecharacterizedbyRamanspectroscopy,BETsurfaceareameasurements,X-raydiffraction,transmissionelectronmicroscopy,andultraviolet-visibleabsorptionspectroscopy.TheaveragesizeoftheTiO2nanoparticlesonthegraphenenanosheetswascontrolledataround10–15nmwithoutusingsurfactant,whichisattributedtothepyrolysisandcondensationofdissolvedTNBintoTiO2byultrasonicirradiation.ThecatalyticactivityofthecompositesunderultrasonicirradiationwasdeterminedusingarhodamineB(RhB)solution.Thegraphene-TiO2compositespossessedahighspecificsurfacearea,whichincreasedthedecolorizationrateforRhBsolution.ThisisbecausethegrapheneandTiO2nanoparticlesinthecompositesinteractstrongly,whichenhancesthephotoelectricconversionofTiO2byreducingtherecombinationofphotogeneratedelectron-holepairs.

Synthesis of Carbon Nanomaterials-CdSe Composites and Their Photocatalytic Activity for Degradation of Methylene Blue

Abstract: We use multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and graphene as carbon nanomaterials to obtain carbon nanomaterilas-CdSe composites using a facile hydrothermal method. The intrinsic characteristics of resulting composites were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectrophotometer. The as-prepared carbon nanomaterilas-CdSe composites possessed great adsorptivity of dyes, extended light absorption range, and efficient charge separation properties simultaneously. Hence, in the photodegradation of methylene blue, a significant enhancement in the reaction rate was observed with carbon nanomaterilas-CdSe composites, compared to the CdSe compound.

Abstract: Sine-phase waveguide grating is engraued on a new kind of polymer material through double-beams interference,which realizes grating coupled optical wave-guide.Conductive characteristical of optical wave-guide on different polarization incidence beam are investigated.Formation of grating is analyzed in theory as well,and propagation constant of optical wave-guide is calculated numerically in this article.The control of the wave-guide grating on guided-wave in modulation of light intensity and direction is discussed,the application of which in integrated optics is also noted.Finally,grating equation of arbitrary incident angle is analyzed.

Abstract: By means of the optical phase retardation method the YAG laser was used to observe the transient heating behavior in planar nematic liquid crystals. According to the experimental results, heating effect may induce molecular reorientation in liquid crystals. Azo-dye and photoisomerized-dye in planar nematic liquid crystals have little effect on heating behavior, but the liquid crystal doped with chiral molecules shows temporary memory effect.

Abstract: 对平行排列5CB(4′-n-penty1-4-cyanobinpheny1)丝状液晶在静磁场中扭曲变形做了严格的数值解,给出了严格分布情况;利用光学“4*4”矩阵算法,计算了线偏振光在严格分布下的传输情况;在实验方面,应用光学相位延迟法对平行排列5CB丝状液晶在静磁场中(温度27℃)线偏振光的通过情况进行了测量.理论计算和实验结果说明在非长螺距近似条件下可用线偏振光对平行排列丝状液晶的物理性质进行实验研究.

Abstract: A method of generating optical phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing in azo-doped nematic liquid crystal is proposed.The mechanism of liquid-crystal reorientation is analyzed.A simple physics picture is given,the theory is consistent with experiment results.The experiment results will have potential applications in nonlinear optics and other fields.

Abstract: Pattern formation and transverse effect are reported for azobenzene polymer film.We show,through scanning electron microscopy and polarizing optical microscopy investigation of azobenzene polymer film after being irradiated by degenerate four-wave mixing,that many peak-like islands of azobenzene polymer molecules array in some patterns.Experimental evidence that it is possible to control the photoinduced micro-patterns of the nonlinear organic film via adequately polarized write beams and appropriate power of the write beams,thus making easy growth of nanostructures crystals in azobenzene polymer film.
