Compliance and capacity of the normal human rectum: Physical considerations and measurement Pitfalls
Zbar A.P.
Acta Chirurgica Iugoslavica , 2007, DOI: 10.2298/aci0702049z
Abstract: The assessment of parameters which adequately represent rectal and neorectal compliance is complex. Biological properties of the rectum during distension and relaxation show significant departures from in vitro physical compliance measurements; as much dependent upon the viscoelastic characteristics of hollow organ deformation as upon the technique of compliance calculation. This review discusses the pressure/volume characteristics of importance in the rectum during distension from a bioengineering perspective and outlines the disparities of such measurements in living biological systems. Techniques and pitfalls of newer methods to assess rectal wall stiffness (impedance planimetry and barostat measurement) are discussed. .
Functional outcome following restorative rectal cancer surgery
Zbar A.P.,Kennedy P.J.,Singh V.
Acta Chirurgica Iugoslavica , 2009, DOI: 10.2298/aci0902009z
Abstract: The trend towards preoperative adjuvant and neoadjuvant therapies in selected patients with rectal cancer has led to increases in sphincter preservation with a limited understanding of the factors governing unsatisfactory functional outcomes. Data would suggest the need for a more selective use of standard radiotherapeutic fields in low- to intermediate-risk cases where there appears to be limited survival or locoregional recurrence benefit and where there is under-reported toxicity. This article discusses the complex factors which impact on functional outcome following open rectal cancer surgery particularly when it is accompanied by adjuvant therapy.
Shell formation and nuclear masses
Zuker, A.P.;
Revista mexicana de física , 2008,
Abstract: we describe the basic mechanisms responsible for nuclear bulk properties and shell formation incorporated in the duflo zuker models. the emphasis is put on explaining why functionals of the occupancies can be so efficient in accounting for data with minimal computational effort.
Ontwikkeling en perspektief in die Afrikaanse po sie
A.P. Grové
Koers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship , 1967, DOI: 10.4102/koers.v34i4&5.1423
A.P. Treurnicht
Koers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship , 1970, DOI: 10.4102/koers.v37i3&4.1319
Spectral Optical Coherent Tomography of Optic Nerve in Diagnosis of Primary Open-angle Glaucoma
A.P. Shakhalova
Sovremennye Tehnologii v Medicine , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of the work is to study the assessment opportunities of the optic nerve morphometric parameters in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma of various stages using spectral optical coherent tomography (OCT).Materials and Methods. 82 patients with various stages of primary open-angle glaucoma have been examined. Objective parameters registration of the optic nerve has been performed by the means of the optic coherent tomograph Cirrus HD-OCT, Carl Zeiss (Germany).Results. There was determined statistically significant reduction of the dimension and the area of neuroretinal zonule as the glaucoma process progressed.Conclusion. The use of spectral OCT in the follow-up of patients with glaucoma will let a physician optimize glaucoma management, as OCT technique enables to monitor optic disc changes progressing in microscopic scale.
Key building sites of Saint-Petersburg from the point of view of acoustics of buildings

De wiskunde-bibliotheek van rekenmeester Cornelis Franssen Eversdijck (1586-1666)
A.P. Buijs
Tijdschrift voor de Geschiedenis der Geneeskunde, Natuurwetenschappen, Wiskunde en Techniek , 1991,
Abstract: The mathematical library of rekenmeester' Cornelis Franssen Eversdyck (1586-1666) The city archive of Goes contains a list of the books left behind by Cornelis Franssen Eversdyck, mathematical practitioner ('rekenmeester') of the province of Zeeland. This article aims to assess the level of Eversdyck's mathematical abilities by means of an analysis of the titles of the mathematical works on this list. For this analysis, Eversdyck's 'Claddebouck', his only preserved notebook containing notes on some twenty titles on the list, is of great value. Eversdyck witnessed the rise of letter algebra. This new development had important implications for algebra and geometry, but whether Eversdyck was actually engaged in letter algebra cannot be assessed at the moment. Prominent among Eversdyck's interests were plane geometry and the problem of the quadrature of the circle. Algebra in books dating from before 1640 largely came down to solving equations by means of the so-called Cosic methods. Most books on the hst are from the 17th century; but Eversdyck also possessed some 16th-century works. Books by mathematical practitioners were mostly written in Dutch, but French was also frequently used; academic mathematicians published their books in Latin.
Non-Equilibrium Flow Type Behaviour In Presence Of Transonic Free Streams Probably Caused By Turbulence Modeling Limitations For Base Flow Computations Using N-S Code, As Well As BASE2D Codes.
A.P. Roychowdhury
Indian Journal of Computer Science and Engineering , 2012,
Abstract: The computational difficulties in getting the flow field using a RANS solver of base flows is given here in two special cases where results were obtainable only when free stream flow was not considered. Thecomputational difficulties could be attributed to frequency shift in both theoretical as well as experimental results caused by small vibrations and large discretizations across the path-line of the base flow.
