Abstract: RESUMO Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a flutua o populacional de espécies da ordem Coleoptera em plantio de Eucalyptus urophylla no município de Almerin, estado do Pará. Esses insetos foram coletados com armadilhas luminosas durante uma noite, a cada quinze dias, de setembro de 1995 a agosto de 1996 com os exemplares identificados de acordo com cole es entomológicas e com a literatura especializada, e divididos em grupos identificados em nível de espécie (INE) ou de família (INF). Foram coletados 132 espécies da ordem Coleoptera, sendo 23 identificadas por espécie e 109 por família, com 2972 e 7187 indivíduos respectivamente. As espécies mais abundantes foram Anomala sp.1, Leucothireus sp. (Scarabaeidae) e Ciclocephala lamminata (Dynastidae) com 93,4% dos indivíduos do primeiro grupo. Carabidae apresentou o maior número de indivíduos (6411) e de espécies (31) dos insetos identificados por família. Todas as coletas apresentaram indivíduos da ordem Coleoptera, com maior número de exemplares dessa ordem em janeiro de 1996.
Controle de Atta laevigata (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) com a isca Landrin-F, em área anteriormente coberta com Eucalyptus

Abstract: although many insecticides have been tested as baits against leaf cutting ants, the market was dominated by those with dodecachlor. this compound was banned and the new baits for these pests have either sulfluramid or chlorpirifos. the objective of this work was to test the landrin-f (chlorpirifos 0.45%) bait against the leaf cutting ant atta laevigata (f. smith, 1858) (hymenoptera: formicidae) compared to mirex-s (sulfluramid 0.3%) bait. treatments used were: application of 30 to 120 grams of the landrin-f bait for each ant hole; application of 8g/m2 of ant nest of landrin-f bait; application of 8g/m2 of ant nest of mirex-s bait and; control, no bait was applied. after 24 and 48 hours the transport and refusal of the baits were evaluated, and after 7, 15, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 and 210 days ant colonies activity was evaluated. ant colonies were excavated after 180 days and its activity was evaluated after 210 days. the application of landrin-f bait based in active ant holes increased the amount of bait in relation to bait quantity applied per square meter of ant colony. since the efficiency of the landrin-f bait was similar in both methodologies it is recomended that this bait should be applied at the dosage of 8 g/m2 of ant colony to control a. laevigata.
Species of Lepidoptera defoliators of Eucalyptus as new host for the parasitoid Palmistichus elaeisis (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)

Abstract: pupae of thyrinteina arnobia (stoll) and thyrinteina leucoceraea rindge (lepidoptera: geometridae) were obtained from eucalyptus cloeziana f. muell and eucalyptus urophylla s.t. blake plants, respectively. specimens of a parasitoid emerged from t. arnobia pupae and also found parasitising t. leucoceraea pupae in the field were identified as palmistichus elaeisis delvare and lasalle (hymenoptera: eulophidae). this is the first report on p. elaeisis parasitizing t. arnobia and t. leucoceraea pupae in natural conditions in brazil. p. elaeisis also parasitized these hosts and bombyx mori linnaeus (lepidoptera: bombycidae), anticarsia gemmatalis hubner, pseudaletia sequax franclemont, alabama argillacea huebner (lepidoptera: noctuidae), dirphia moderata bouvier (lepidoptera: saturniidae) and halysidota pearsoni watson (lepidoptera: arctiidae) in the laboratory. the production and release of p. elaeisis could be an efficient alternative for controlling lepidoptera defoliators in eucalyptus plantations.
Influência da idade da muda de Eucalyptus grandis no desenvolvimento da lagarta-rosca Nomophila sp.

Abstract: the influence of the age of eucalyptus grandis (myrtaceae) seedlings in the development ofnomophila sp. (lepidoptera: pyralidae) was studied. the insect was fed in laboratory at 24±2°c, 80±15% of rh and photophase of 12 hours with 2030 days or 5060 days old e. grandis leaves. observed parameters were: number, duration and characterization of each instar, width of head capsule, length of the body, duration of the larval stage, relationship between number of instars and sex of adults, viability and behavior of nomophila sp. caterpillars. this insect showed better development with 2030 days old e. grandis seedlings than those with 5060 days old e. grandis seedlings, which have harder stems. this reinforces the need to grow eucalyptus seedlings in good fertility conditions aiming to increase their development which could reduce damage level by nomophila sp.
Biologia de Fulgurodes sartinaria Guenée (Lepidoptera, Geometridae) em Pinus patula

Abstract: this paper relates to the first case of pinus patula defoliation by fulgurodes sartinaria guenée, 1857 (lepidoptera: geometridae) in minas gerais, brazil. fieldand laboratory studies showed that f. sartinaria is a voraceus species with high biotic potential. avarage egg laying by female was 180.82 with 22.34±7.36% and 12.91±0.11 days of egg viability and incubation period, respectively. larval period passed through five instars with a mean of 78.56±1.91 days. pre-pupal and pupal stages had a mean period of 3.3±0.24 and 20.70±2.05 days, respectively. males and females were very similar in appearance, with 12.88±0.92 and 12.00± 1.65 days of adult live, respectivelly. it were found an identified egg parasite and brachymeria sp. pupal parasite.

Abstract: the objective of this research was to study population fluctuation of coleoptera species in the county of santa bárbara, minas gerais, brazil in a eucalyptus grandis plantation. coleoptera individuals were collected with five light traps during one night every fifteen days from july 1993 to june 1994. a total of 5,641 individuals of this order was collected, being 866 and 4,775 identified at genus and/or species and family levels, respectively. the family with the highest number of individuals was carabidae with 74.55%, followed by scarabaeidae and elateridae with 10.12% and 3.98% of individuals of this group, respectively. most species collected were isonychus albicinctus (scarabaeidae), followed by colaspis jolivetti (chrysomelidae) and cyclocephala laminata(scarabaeidae) with 412, 317 and 16 individuals which represented 54.50, 36.61 and 1.85% of individuals identified per species, respectively. the region of santa bárbara presents a diversified fauna of coleoptera, but with low outbreak possibilities. population peaks of coleoptera species ocurred in november and december, when monitoring of these insects is recommended.

Abstract: bionomic aspects of idalus admirabilis (cramer, 1777) (lepidoptera: arctiidae) were studied in laboratory at 25 ± 2o c, 60 ± 10 % relative humidity and 12 hours photophase. i. admirabilis presented seven instars with 29.6 days and 39.39% mortality. its pre-pupal and pupal stages lasted one day and 15.7 ± 0.13 and 15.0 ± 0.15 days for males and females, respectively. each female of i. admirabilis laid 157.9 ± 0.67 eggs and the incubation period lasted 7.1 days with 41.7% viability. adult longevity was 11.0 ± 0.88 and 13.0 ± 0.77 days for males and females, respectively.

Abstract: species of the eucalypt genus represent the majority of forest plantations in brazil. because these species belong to the myrtaceae family, they have been attacked by insects of native host plants of this family including oxydia vesulia (lepidoptera: geometridae), which is responsible for significant damage to eucalyptus plants in many areas in brazil. the establishment and preservation of native reserves have been one of the alternatives used aiming to reduce the effect of harmful agents since it increases ecological diversity, consequently favouring the multiplication and diversity of natural enemies. lepidoptera species were collected in two eucalyptus plantations, one with and the other without strips of native vegetation with light traps, in five plant situations: 1 inside a savannah area at 100 meters from its border; 2- in the contact area between the savannah and the eucalyptus plantation; 3- inside the eucalyptus plantation at 250 meters from its border; 4- in the center of a savannah strip at approximately 500 meters from the border of the savannah area and 5- inside the eucalyptus plantation at 750 meters from the border of the savannah area. a total of 329 individuals of o. vesulia was collected with this species being more abundant in the area without strips with 266 individuals, while only 63 individuals were collected in the area with strips. this species was constant (51.43%) in the system without strips and accessory (45.71%) in the area with strips while its frequency was 1.15 and 1.66%, respectively, in these systems with higher number of individuals from the second fortnight of february in both systems. o. vesulia showed a higher number of individuals in the system with strips, specially inside the eucalyptus plantation at 250 meters from the border of the savannah area, with 31 individuals. the system without strips showed the highest number of individuals inside the eucalyptus plantation at 750 meters from the border of the savanah area.

Abstract: O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a influência da idade das mudas de Eucalyptus grandis (Myrtaceae) no desenvolvimento da lagarta-rosca Nomophila sp. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). Esse inseto foi alimentado em laboratório (24±2°C, 80±15% de UR e fotofase de 12 horas) com folhas de eucalipto com 20-30 dias ou com 50-60 dias de idade. Os parametros observados foram: número, dura o e caracteriza o dos estádios, largura da cápsula cefálica, comprimento do corpo, dura o da fase larval, rela o entre número de estádios e o sexo, viabilidade e comportamento das lagartas de Nomophila sp. Esse inseto mostrou melhor desenvolvimento em todos os parametros observados, em mudas de eucalipto com 20-30 dias do que em mudas com 50-60 dias de idade, quando o caule está mais enrijecido. Isto refor a a necessidade de se realizar uma aduba o balanceada nas mudas de E. grandis, como forma de acelerar seu desenvolvimento, e torná-las morfologicamente menos favoráveis ao desenvolvimento das lagartas de Nomophila sp.

Abstract: Aspectos bion micos de Idalus admirabilis (CRAMER, 1777) (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae) foram obtidos, em laboratório, a 25 ? 3 degreesC e fotofase de 12 horas. Esse lepidóptero apresentou sete estádios, com dura o de 29,6 dias, e viabilidade de 60,61% e maior mortalidade no último estádio. O período de pré-pupa foi de um dia para ambos os sexos e o de pupa, de 15,7 ? 0,13 e 15,0 ? 0,15 dias para machos e fêmeas, respectivamente. Cada fêmea de I. admirabilis ovipositou 157,9 ? 0,67 ovos em 5,1 posturas. O período de incuba o foi de 7,1 dias, com viabilidade de 41,7%, sendo a longevidade de machos e de fêmeas de 11,0 ? 0,98 e 13,0 ? 0,77 dias, respectivamente.
