El cálculo en carreras de ingeniería: un estudio cognitivo
Zuiga, Leopoldo;
Revista latinoamericana de investigación en matemática educativa , 2007,
Abstract: this paper reports a cognitive study of a qualitative character in relation to the learning of the two variable functions and partial derivative concepts in the engineering context. it defends the fact that didactic settings in context can be conducive to a logical meaningful learning for the student with sense in the future professional area. this motivated us to research what happened at cognitive levels for students in this type of didactic environment. the theoretical framework is described by the study of cognitive functioning in a mental act of learning (the process of resolving problem). the analysis reports the experience which results in the implementation of didactic setting designs with one group of engineering students.
Estimando un Modelo de 2 Factores del Tipo
Sergio Zu?±iga
Revista de Análisis Económico (RAE) , 1999,
Abstract: In this article we estimate a two-factor model for the risk-free term structure yield in Chile. These factors are the short rate and the central tendency that are not directly estimable. Both factors follow an Ito stochastic process. In the solution of the model we follow the Balduzzi et al. (1996) specification, which provides an estimation procedure that do not depend on the parametric specification of the second factor and an "exponential affine" solution type that allows to estimate the model by mean of only one equation. The data used in this study is the average weekly yields of the bonds "Bonos de Reconocimiento" (BR) of the Chilean stock exchange during May 1993 and December 1997. The results show that when we use a stochastic level for the long term rates the yields adjust better than the case when this level is constant. Also, the speed of the reversion process increases due to the better performance of the short term rate. In addition, using an ARCH specification for the rate volatility we found additional evidence that the variance of the rates. Conductance in diffusive quasi-one-dimensional periodic waveguides: a semiclassical and random matrix study
Jaime Zuiga Vukusich
Physics , 2012,
Abstract: We study quantum transport properties of finite periodic quasi-one-dimensional waveguides whose classical dynamics is diffusive. The system we consider is a scattering configuration, composed of a finite periodic chain of $L$ identical (classically chaotic and finite-horizon) unit cells, which is connected to semi-infinite plane leads at its extremes. Particles inside the cavity are free and only interact with the boundaries through elastic collisions; this means waves are described by the Helmholtz equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions on the waveguide walls. The equivalent to the disorder ensemble is an energy ensemble, defined over a classically small range but many mean level spacings wide. The number of propagative channels in the leads is $N$. We have studied the (adimensional) Landauer conductance $g$ as a function of $L$ and $N$ in the cosine-shaped waveguide and by means of our RMT periodic chain model. We have found that $$ exhibit two regimes. First, for chains of length $L\lesssim\sqrt{N}$ the dynamics is diffusive just like in the disordered wire in the metallic regime, where the typic ohmic scaling is observed with $ = N/(L+1)$. In this regime, the conductance distribution is a Gaussian with small variance but which grows linearly with $L$. Then, in longer systems with $L\gg\sqrt{N}$, the periodic nature becomes relevant and the conductance reaches a constant asymptotic value $ \sim $. The variance approaches a constant value $\sim\sqrt{N}$ as $L\to\infty$. Comparing the conductance using the unitary and orthogonal circular ensembles we observed that a weak localization effect is present in the two regimes.
Epidemiological changes and financial consequences of hypertension in Latin America: implications for the health system and patients in Mexico
Arredondo, Armando;Zuiga, Alexis;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2012000300010
Abstract: the aim of this study was to assess the costs and financial consequences of epidemiological changes in hypertension in méxico. the cost evaluation method to estimate costs was based on instrumentation techniques. to estimate the epidemiological changes and expected cases of hypertension in 2010-2012, three probabilistic models were constructed according to the box-jenkins technique. comparing the economic impact, from 2010 to 2012 there will be a 24% increase in financial requirements (p < 0.05). the total cost of hypertension in 2011 will be us$ 5,733,350,291, including us$ 2,718,280,941 in direct costs and us$ 3,015,069,350 in indirect costs. if the risk factors and various healthcare models remain unaltered in the institutions analyzed here, the financial consequences will have a major impact on users' pockets, followed by social security providers and public healthcare providers. the authors suggest a revision in the planning, organization, and allocation of resources, particularly programs for health promotion and prevention of hypertension.
LAS CONCEPCIONES DE LA NATURALEZA DE DARWIN Y GOETHE, DISCUTIDAS POR TRES FILóSOFOS ALEMANES (NIETZSCHE, CASSIRER Y SIMMEL)
Zuiga Rengifo Nestor Javier
Gómez,Carmen Cecilia; Zuiga,Eduardo;
Acta Medica Colombiana , 2005,
Abstract: spleen abscesses are uncommon. we describe the case of a 56 year-old man who presented with diarrhea, fever, vomiting and weight loss. on physical examination, the main findings included jaundice, hepatomegaly and ascites. diagnostic imaging showed the presence of spleen abscesses, due to salmonella species. considering the type of abscess, medical treatment was given without the need for interventional treatment, resulting in a satisfactory outcome. no other risk factor was found, other than the gastrointestinal focus as the precursor of the splenic abscess.
Las medidas de seguridad en materia penal juvenil
Campos Zuiga,Mayra; Vargas Rojas,Omar;
Medicina Legal de Costa Rica , 2006,
Abstract: currently, there has been an arduous discussion about penalties in juvenile criminal law, topic which becomes especially relevant when we are faced to criminal conducts from people who are underage, in which their condition of not guilty or drug addict has been determined from the conclusions of respective expertise. the question leads up to two possible solutions: first, face it like a health problem and exclude it from criminal law; second, keep the traditional line, in which the criminal law can punish the criminal conduct, imposing a security measure. if we admit the first solution, the laws applicable are the code of childhood and adolescence, contemplating the possibility of applying protection measures towards those who are in a vulnerable situation, in which we would put the cases of the not guilty and the drug addicts; this would imply admitting "security or protection" measures with a juridical nature of administrative sort. position that would imply not only a weakening of rights, but would also violate what the constitutional chamber has said, when studying the scope of article 39 of the political constitution, that the imposition of punishments and security measures have the guarantee of law reserve, which makes its nature jurisdictional and exclusive to when a crime is committed. the only possible solution, in order to respect this law reserve, is to apply, according to article 9 of the law of juvenile criminal justice, the legislation applicable to adults and to admit the imposition of security measures in juvenile criminal justice.
Evolución de la infección con Trypanosoma cruzi en cepas susceptibles y resistentes de ratones
ZUIGA,C; VARGAS,R; VERGARA,U;
Archivos de medicina veterinaria , 2002, DOI: 10.4067/S0301-732X2002000200004
Abstract: mice from aca and a.sn strains were equally susceptible (100% mortality) to intraperitoneal infection with 2000 blood trypomastigotes from tulahuen strain of trypanosoma cruzi, while a.sw and hti strains were resistant (100% survival). however mice from a.sw and hti strains showed significantly higher level of parasitemia than the susceptible strains. the histopathology of miocardial and skeletal muscle was evaluated in the susceptible and resistant strains of mice. in the first ten days post-infection no significant differences in tissue damage were observed. however in the third week of infection, while a.sw and hti mice showed recovery of tissue lessions, the susceptible a.sn and aca showed increased tissue damage although no blood forms and intracellular parasites were detected. serum samples from infected mice were tested by dot-immunoradiometric assay, for reactivity against recombinant antigens 1,2,13,26,30,36 and sapa of t. cruzi. all mice sera only reacted with clones 13 and sapa, suggesting that this reactivity seems not to be involved in susceptibility or resistance to infection with tulahuen strain of t. cruzi
