Abstract: In the title compound, [Ni(C10H9N3)4](ClO4)2·2C2H5OH, the metal centre exhibits a four-coordinated environment with four pyridine N atoms of the four different dipyridylamine ligands. A twofold rotation axis passes through the Ni atom. N—H...O and N—H...N hydrogen bonds are present in the crystal structure.

Abstract: In the title compound, [Cu2Cl4(C11H16N4)]n, the Cu atom is coordinated by two N atoms of two 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethyl-4,4′-methylenedipyrazole (H2mbdpz) ligands, two bridging Cl atoms and one terminal Cl atom, forming a square-pyramidal geometry. The bridging Cl atoms and the bridging H2mbdpz ligands connect the Cu atoms to build up an extended one-dimensional chain. The chains are further connected through N—H...Cl hydrogen bonds to build up a two-dimensional layer in the (011) plane. An inversion centre lies between every pair of adjacent Cu atoms.

Effects of the mixture of Swertia pseudochinensis Hara and Silybum marianum Gaertn extracts on CCl4-induced liver injury in rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To study the mechanism of liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and the therapeutic effects of the extract mixture of Dangyao (Swertia pseudochinensis Hara) and Shuifeiji (Silybum marianum Gaertn) on NAFLD rats with liver injury.METHODS: Male Wistar rats were randomized into normal control group, CCl4 group, high-fat diet group, high-fat diet plus CCl4 injection group (model group), diammonium glycyrrhizinate group and extract mixture group. Except the normal control and CCl4 groups, rats were fed with high-fat diet (88% normal chow, 10% lard and 2% cholesterol) to induce NAFLD. Diammonium glycyrrhizinate and extracts were given by gavage. After eight weeks, a nonlethal dose of CCl4 was injected intraperitoneally to all rats except the normal and high-fat diet groups. And 48 h later, all rats were sacrificed, and serum and liver tissues were collected for further study. Paraffin-processed liver tissue was stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) to observe the pathological changes. Serum alamine aminotrasferas (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were measured. The levels of triacylglycerol (TAG), malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) in liver tissues were also examined. Expression of uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting.RESULTS: Liver sections stained with HE showed that the histopathological changes in the normal control group and the CCl4 group were mild; massive hepatosteatosis diffusing in lobules was shown in the high-fat diet groups; steatosis, hepatocellular ballooning degeneration and inflammatory infiltration were severe around the central vein in sections of the model group. Compared with the model group, hepatosteatosis and ballooning were significantly attenuated in the treatment groups. Levels of serum ALT and AST, contents of TAG and MDA and the UCP2 expression in liver tissues of the model group increased obviously, while the level of liver GSH decreased. Compared with rats in the model group, the above biomarkers in the treatment groups were improved significantly.CONCLUSION: The mixture of Dangyao and Shuifeiji extracts can decrease the susceptibility and degree of liver injury induced by hepatotoxin in rats with NAFLD. Regulation of the balance of pro- and anti-oxidative stress factors is involved in the mechanism.
Bifurcation analysis of steady-state quasi-geostrophic flow in Lagrangian formulation

Abstract: The quasi-geostrophic equation or the Euler equation with dissipation studied in the present paper is a simplified form of the atmospheric circulation model introduced by Charney and DeVore [J. Atmos. Sci. 36(1979), 1205-1216] on the existence of multiple steady states to the understanding of the persistence of atmospheric blocking. The fluid motion defined by the equation is driven by a zonal thermal forcing and an Ekman friction forcing measured by $\kappa>0$. It is proved that the steady-state solution is unique for $\kappa >1$ while multiple steady-state solutions exist for $\kappa<\kappa_{crit}$ with respect to critical value $\kappa_{crit}<1$. Without involvement of viscosity, the equation has strong nonlinearity as its nonlinear part contains the highest order derivative term. Steady-state bifurcation analysis is essentially based on the compactness, which can be simply obtained for semi-linear equations such as the Navier-Stokes equations but is not available for the quasi-geostrophic equation in the Euler formulation. Therefore the Lagrangian formulation of the equation is employed to gain the required compactness.

Abstract: The photocatalytic depolymerization of Dagang vacuum residue (DVR) was carried out with H2O2 over TiO2 in a photochemical reactor. Most of the organic matter in DVR was converted into oxygen-containing organic compounds. The yields of carboxylic acids, oxalates, epoxy compounds, and hydroxyl compounds from DVR oxidation are 40.6%, 36.4%, 17.86%, and 13.5%, respectively. In addition, the oxidation causes significant decrease in viscosity and chromaticity of DVR. The related reaction mechanisms are discussed according to the experimental results. 1. Introduction Heavy oil becomes more and more important with rapid reduction of light oil and drastic increase of liquid fuels [1–5]. As typical heavy oil in China, Dagang vacuum residue (DVR) has high viscosity and chromaticity [6]. Photo-catalytic oxidation (PCO) has been widely applied to many aspects such as solar energy transformation, environmental protection and the syntheses of coating, cosmetic and printing ink, food-packaging materials, gas sensors and functional ceramics [7–15]. Almost all the organic matter (OM) in aqueous solution can be converted into carbon dioxide and water by PCO; hydroxyl oxidation and electron-hole pair oxidation are principal processes in the course of oxidation [16–18]. However, selective PCO of heavy oil in organic solvent has not been reported to our knowledge. In the present study, we found that OM in DVR can be converted into oxygen-containing organic compounds (OCOCs), which can be used as industrial raw materials for the synthesis of dyes and medicines. Particularly, dialkyl oxalates in the OCOCs are reactive intermediates for preparing chemical cold light source [19–22]. 2. Experimental Section 2.1. Samples and Reagents DVR, the residue of crude oil vacuum distillated later and collected from Dagang Oil Field, Tianjin Municipality, China, was preserved in sealed condition. Table 1 shows the elementary properties and ultimate analysis of DVR. Cyclohexane, acetone, and hydrogen peroxide (30%?wt) are commercial purchased analytical reagents, and all organic solvents used in the experiment were distilled prior to use. Titanium dioxide as photocatalyst was prepared by Sol-Gel method and characterized by ultraviolet visible (UV-VIS), -ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) (as shown in Figures SI-1, 2, 3, and 4 and Table SI-1, see Supplementary Materials available at http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2011/869589)), implying the homemade powders are anatase nanometer particles, and its particle radius is no more than 20?nm, and its properties are similar

Abstract: Two coals were oxidized with aqueous NaOCl solution under mild conditions.The reaction mixture acidified was sequentially extracted with ethoxyethane,CS2,petroleum ether,acetic ester and benzene,followed esterification by CH2N2 and analysis with GC/MS.The results show that chloro-substituted compounds,aliphatic acids and aromatic polycarboxylic acids are main products.The oxidative product was sequentially extracted with different polar solvents and achieved a simple group separation.Effective separation and analysis of oxidation products of coal in aqueous NaOCl solution,established by the study,provides a feasible method for high value-added use of coal.
