Abstract: The genus Byssosphaeria from China was briefly reviewed based on specimen examinations and literature work. Taxonomic and nomenclatural problems are discussed. Among the previously recorded taxa of the genus, a new combination, Byssosphaeria hainanensis, is made and a new Chinese record, B. alnea, is reported. A key to the known species of the genus in China is provided.

Abstract: Phylogenetic relationships of Dothideales and its allies were investigated based on analyses of nrDNA 18S (44 sequences of 31 species belonging to 20 genera) and 28S (41 sequences of 33 species belonging to 18 genera) partial sequences. What an rRNA Secondary Structure Tells about Phylogeny of Fungi in Ascomycota with Emphasis on Evolution of Major Types of Ascus

Abstract: Background RNA secondary structure is highly conserved throughout evolution. The higher order structure is fundamental in establishing important structure-function relationships. Nucleotide sequences from ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes have made a great contribution to our understanding of Ascomycota phylogeny. However, filling the gaps between molecular phylogeny and morphological assumptions based on ascus dehiscence modes and type of fruitbodies at the higher level classification of the phylum remains an unfulfilled task faced by mycologists. Methodology/Principal Findings We selected some major groups of Ascomycota to view their phylogenetic relationships based on analyses of rRNA secondary structure. Using rRNA secondary structural information, here, we converted nucleotide sequences into the structure ones over a 20-symbol code. Our structural analyses together with ancestral character state reconstruction produced reasonable phylogenetic position for the class Geoglossomycetes as opposed to the classic nucleotide analyses. Judging from the secondary structure analyses with consideration of mode of ascus dehiscence and the ability of forming fruitbodies, we draw a clear picture of a possible evolutionary route for fungal asci and some major groups of fungi in Ascomycota. The secondary structure trees show a more reasonable phylogenetic position for the class Geoglossomycetes. Conclusions Our results illustrate that asci lacking of any dehiscence mechanism represent the most primitive type. Passing through the operculate and Orbilia-type asci, bitunicate asci occurred. The evolution came to the most advanced inoperculate type. The ascus-producing fungi might be derived from groups lacking of the capacity to form fruitbodies, and then evolved multiple times. The apothecial type of fruitbodies represents the ancestral state, and the ostiolar type is advanced. The class Geoglossomycetes is closely related to Leotiomycetes and Sordariomycetes having a similar ascus type other than it was originally placed based on nucleotide sequence analyses.
Species diversity of the fungal genus Lachnum (Hyaloscyphaceae, Ascomycotina) from tropical China

Abstract: 本文在对我国盘菌资源调查的基础上 ,分析研究了热带地区粒毛盘菌属真菌的物种多样性。本研究共分析45 1份标本 ,属于 35个分类单位 ,其中Lachnumabnormevar.abnorme ,L .brasiliense,L .flavidulum ,L .pteri dophyllum ,L .sclerotii和L .virgineum 6个种的个体数量均在总数的 6 %以上 ,占已观察标本总数的 73 .4% ,是我国热带地区的常见种。物种多样性分析表明 ,海南的物种丰富度 (S =2 2 )和多样性指数 (H′ =2 .6 6 96 )最高 ,云南与广西的物种丰富度相似。采用群落系数 (coefficientofcommunity ,cc)比较了不同地区的物种分布相似性。本文还试图探讨物种分布与海拔高度、生境、基物间的关系。粒毛盘菌属真菌在海拔 6 0~ 2 70 0m的地带均有分布 ,由于调查和取样的局限性 ,物种随海拔高度变化的规律不明显 ;地理分布上大致可分为世界性分布、间断性分布和地方特有三种分布型。
Phylogeny of some genera in the Pyronemataceae (Pezizales, Ascomycetes)

Abstract: Phylogenetic relationships among some members of the Pyronemataceae were studied based on 71 SSU rDNA sequences from 60 species of 28 genera in the Pyronemataceae and 13 species in several families of the Pezizales. Maximum parsimony and Bayesian analyses suggest that Pyronemataceae in a broad sense seems monophyletic. Subfamilies and tribes suggested previously by different authors are not supported by our molecular data. Five distinct lineages are recognized within the family. Fifteen terrestrial, saprophytic and hairy genera constitute Lineage A, for which only the relationships of some taxa involved are clear. The four moss-associated genera are closely related and form Lineage B. Lineage C contains only Otidea and Otideopsis and shows that Otideopsis is nested among taxa of Otidea. Lineage D contains only the morphologically distinct genus Acervus. Lineage E includes the remaining genera with diverse gross morphology, in which many problems still need to be solved. Comments on some morphological features used in taxonomy of the family are provided.

Abstract: Current classification of the Hyaloscyphaceae is based mainly on morphological characteristics, which does not reveal the phylogenetic relationships among genera in the family. Investigation of the phylogenetic relationships of Lachnum and some related genera by using sequence analysis of partial 18S rDNA was carried out and the results indicated that Lachnum and its allies are possibly not monophyletic and that three lineages were recognized. Lachnum hyalopus and its closely related species, L. nudipes and L. virgineum, represent one group. L. brasiliense, L. sclerotii, L. singerianum, Albotricha guangxiensis, Calycellina populina, Cistella grevillei, Hyaloscypha aureliella, Lachnellula calyciformis, Parachnopeziza guangxiensis, and Trichopeziza sulphurea constitute another one with a low bootstrap value (57%). As currently defined, Lachnum is probably paraphyletic or polyphyletic. Lachnum and Cistella somewhat similar in morphological features were grouped together with 51% bootstrap value and might be close. Parachnopeziza previously placed in the Arachnopezizoideae seemed not close to Arachnopeziza, the type genus of that subfamily. Of the 14 species examined, the most distant species is Arachnopeziza aurata, which suggests that the Arachnopezizoideae might not be closely related to other members of the Hyaloscyphaceae.

Abstract: 本文首次利用核酸二级结构特征代替核酸碱基作为探讨类群之间亲缘关系的信号,构建了基于结构特征的子囊菌部分类群的系统进化树。该方法以S(规范的碱基对),Q(不规范的碱基对),I(单链),B(侧环),M(多分枝环)和H(发卡结构)为代码将二级结构特征区分为6种不同的亚结构类型,然后将二级结构特征转换为结构序列,并进行结构序列分析。该方法使rRNA不只局限于碱基比较,拓展了其应用范围,为揭示分子的功能与进化的关系提供了线索。结果表明,结构序列分析可用于子囊菌的系统学研究;相对于核酸序列分析,结构分析的结果似乎更加清晰地体现子囊果的演化过程。

Abstract: Phylogenetic relationships among 11 genera in the family Nectriaceae, Hypocreales were studied by using analysis of partial sequences of the nuclear large subunit rDNA. The results showed that Cosmospora is possibly not monophyletic, species of the genus tested showed close relationships to 3 different genera i.e. Nectria, Haematonectria, and Neocosmospora; species of Haematonectria and Neocosmospora are very closely related; Lanatonectria is a tenable genus; and Neonectria represented by N. discophora var. discophora is distinct at the generic level.

Abstract: Specimens of the genus Hypomyces deposited in the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae were re-examined. Nine species were identified. Among them, H. marcrosporus, H. subiculosus and H. tegillum are new records for China.
