Temperature-induced anomalous structural changes of Al-12wt.%Sn-4wt.%Si melt and its influence on as-cast structure

Abstract: The temperature dependence of the viscosity of liquid Al-12wt.%Sn-4wt.%Si was studied with a high-temperature viscosity apparatus. Anomalous changes of viscosity of the melt were found at 1,103 K and 968 K in the cooling process, which indicates anomalous structural changes of the melt. It is calculated that the anomalous structural change is associated with an abrupt decrease of atomic clusters’ size and activation energy in the melt. According to the temperature of the anomalous structural changes, melt heat treatment process (quenching from superheat to pouring temperature) was performed on Al-12wt.%Sn-4wt.%Si melt prior to pouring, aimed to keep the small atomic clusters from higher temperature to lower pouring temperature. The results suggest that relatively small atomic clusters at the pouring temperature in the melt could generate a deep under-cooling of nucleation in the subsequent solidification process, and refine the as-cast structure. After being quenched from superheating to pouring temperature, the relatively small atomic clusters, especially the Si-Si clusters in the melt will grow to equilibrium state (relatively big atomic clusters) with holding time, resulting in the prominent coarsening of the Si morphology in the as-cast structure.
Synthesis of RpoS Is Dependent on a Putative Enhancer Binding Protein Rrp2 in Borrelia burgdorferi

Abstract: The RpoN-RpoS regulatory pathway plays a central role in governing adaptive changes by B. burgdorferi when the pathogen shuttles between its tick vector and mammalian hosts. In general, transcriptional activation of bacterial RpoN (σ54)-dependent genes requires an enhancer binding protein. B. burgdorferi encodes the putative enhancer binding protein Rrp2. Previous studies have revealed that the expression of σ54-dependent rpoS was abolished in an rrp2 point mutant. However, direct evidence linking the production of Rrp2 in B. burgdorferi and the expression of rpoS has been lacking, primarily due to the inability to inactivate rrp2 via deletion or insertion mutagenesis. Herein we introduced a regulatable (IPTG-inducible) rrp2 expression shuttle plasmid into B. burgdorferi, and found that the controlled up-regulation of Rrp2 resulted in the induction of σ54-dependent rpoS expression. Moreover, we created an rrp2 conditional lethal mutant in virulent B. burgdorferi. By exploiting this conditional mutant, we were able to experimentally manipulate the temporal level of Rrp2 expression in B. burgdorferi, and examine its direct impact on activation of the RpoN-RpoS regulatory pathway. Our data revealed that the synthesis of RpoS was coincident with the IPTG-induced Rrp2 levels in B. burgdorferi. In addition, the synthesis of OspC, a lipoprotein required by B. burgdorferi to establish mammalian infection, was rescued in the rrp2 point mutant when RpoS production was restored, suggesting that Rrp2 influences ospC expression indirectly via its control over RpoS. These data demonstrate that Rrp2 is required for the synthesis of RpoS, presumably via its action as an enhancer binding protein for the activation of RpoN and subsequent transcription of rpoS in B. burgdorferi.

Abstract: This paper proposes an innovative plan and its implement strategy of Hemu urban wetland. The plan takes into consideration its historical background and current status, its protection significance, strategies, solutions and support conditions. It highlights the landscape characteristics of rivers and lakes, and restores its historical flood prevention functions and climate regulation for the city. Especially, this paper proposes to achieve the restoration of “Mulberry-sided Fish Pond” farming style—an important agricultural heritage created by the ancestors inside the wetland, which is a unique and creative way to use low land for ecological agriculture and cycling economy. The proposed wetland sewage treatment schemes would be of practical importance to improve and enhance the ecological environment and promote the construction of ecological civilization in the region. The “Two zones—One block and Three complexes” protection and utilization plan is reasonable and feasible. It fully presents the functions of the wetland for its production, living, life forms and ecology, and is characterized by joint protection of the wetland by original residents and social public. This will result in active, instead of passive, wetland protection, like turning a “blood transfusion protection” to “hematopoietic protection”, which reflects the sustainable development. The paper offers valuable information and strategies for planning and development of urban wetland.
A336C/A336T/T337C variations in HBV core gene and spontaneous hepatitis B e antigen loss in chronic hepatitis B patients

Abstract: A modified PCR-RFLP assay and ELISA were adopted to determine A336C/A336T/T337C variations and serum HBeAg levels in chronic hepatitis B patients without any antiviral therapy, respectively, whereas G1896A variation and HBV genotype were detected using Taqman-PCR assay. RFLP pattern C, E, G, C/G mixture and a new pattern C' were found in this study. A336C/A336T/T337C variations occurred in 40/166(24.1%) chronic hepatitis B patients. Chi-square test showed that C336/T336/C337 variants was more frequent in chronic hepatitis B patients with A1896 variants than those with the wild type G1896 (χ2 = 4.7, P = 0.03), and moreover, patients with C336/T336/C337 variants had a significantly lower HBeAg-positive percentage than those with the wild type A336/T337. Binary logistic regression identified genotype B (OR = 4.1, 95%CI = 1.8-9.2, P = 0.001), the presence of C336/T336/C337 variants (OR = 3.2, 95%CI = 1.2-8.5, P = 0.02) and A1896 variants (OR = 7.8, 95%CI = 3.3-18.5, P < 0.001) as independent factors associated with spontaneous HBeAg loss.A336C/A336T/T337C were naturally occurring polymorphisms in HBV core gene, and moreover, the presence of C336/T336/C337 variants was first demonstrated to be an independent factor associating with spontaneous HBeAg loss in chronic hepatitis B patients.Infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) remains a very important human disease, with an estimated 400 million people infected chronically worldwide. Abstract: In this study, we have a research of the physical properties of oil tea camellia fruit, which is one of the important and native ecological plants in China. One important physical property was studied; it was one crack type of oil-tea camellia fruit while heated by microwave. The fruit’s diameters, quality, crack lengths were measured and fruit crack pictures in different time were taken in the heated process, the results showed that about 38% crack type was near -120o and the crack was produced almost at the time after it was heated about 60 sec. So the microwave heating method is more rapid to separate the oil-tea camellia fruit and seeds than other traditional methods. The theory of crack was also analyzed, formula relation of Kic and E was obtained after calculated.
Spin-filtering and charge- and spin-switching effects in a quantum wire with periodically attached stubs

Abstract: Spin-dependent electron transport in a periodically stubbed quantum wire in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) is studied via the nonequilibrium Green's function method combined with the Landauer-Buttiker formalism. The coexistence of spin filtering, charge and spin switching are found in the considered system. The mechanism of these transport properties is revealed by analyzing the total charge density and spin-polarized density distributions in the stubbed quantum wire. Furthermore, periodic spin-density islands with high polarization are also found inside the stubs, owing to the interaction between the charge density islands and the Rashba SOI-induced effective magnetic field. The proposed nanostructure may be utilized to devise an all-electrical multifunctional spintronic device.

Abstract: Zhangjiajie, a World Natural Heritage, is located in Chinese Wuling hinterland and rich in forest resources with cov-erage rate 64.61 percent of forest. Zhangjiajie was listed in World Natural Heritage Catalogue by the UNESCO in 1992 and is one of the most important tourism sites in China. As a leading and pillar industry, the tourism achieved remarkable effects on the economic development, where forest eco-tourism has played an important role. The purpose of this research is to estimate the forest recreational values of Zhangjiajie using a contingent valuation method (CVM). The empirical results show that non-use values account for the majority of the total values of Zhangjiajie. On this basis, the contingency table and Chi square test method are employed to test the related factors influencing tourists’ willingness to pay (WTP). The test results show that educational level and income level are the most important factors influencing WTP.

We establish three models and simulate in three network systems to deal with this question. To improve network invulnerability, we’d better avoid dependent relations transmission and add supportive relations symmetrically.

Abstract: 摘要 考虑制造商向分销商提供商业信用,同时分销商向零售商提供商业信用的三阶段供应链,运用融入了违约风险与时间价值因素的改进Newsvendor模型,求解各企业的最优生产/订货批量,分析违约概率和信用期对这些批量决策的影响,并探讨数量折扣契约在商业信用模式下的协调效力。研究发现:在一定条件下违约风险会令上游交货量小于下游订货量,引发供应链短板效应,甚至订单萎缩的反向牛鞭效应;批量规模与自身信用期负相关,与他人信用期正相关;数量折扣契约的制定需要综合考虑预期利润、信用期和违约概率的影响,且协调效力取决于是否发生砍单现象
Influence of viral hepatitis status on prognosis in patients undergoing hepatic resection for hepatocellular carcinoma: a meta-analysis of observational studies

Abstract: A literature search was performed to identify comparative studies reporting postoperative survival of HCC in different types of viral hepatitis. Pooled odds ratios (OR) and weighted mean differences (WMD with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated using either the fixed effects model or random effects model.Twenty studies matched the selection criteria and reported on 4744 subjects, of whom 2008 in the HBV-positive (B-HCC) group, 2222 in the HCV-positive (C-HCC) group, and 514 in the hepatitis B- and C-negative (NBNC-HCC). Meta-analysis showed that patients with HBV or HCV infection had a worse 5-year disease-free survival when compared to patients with NBNC-HCC (respectively: OR: 0.39, 95% CI: 0.28 to 0.53, P < 0.001; WMD: 0.37, 95% CI: 0.22 to 0.64, P < 0.001). There was a tendency toward higher 5-year overall survival rates in the NBNC-HCC group compared to those in the other two groups, although these differences were not statistically significant. Both the 5-year overall survival and disease-free survival were not different among the B-HCC and C-HCC groups.Patients with positive serology for hepatitis B or C undergoing resection for HCC had a poor prognosis compared to patients with negative serology.Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common cancer in the world, responsible for 500,000 deaths globally every year [1].
