The coexistence of ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism in Mn-doped BaTiO3 thin films

Abstract: 5-at% Mn-doped and undoped BaTiO3 thin films have been grown under different oxygen partial pressures by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) on platinum-coated sapphire substrates. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements for all the thin films reveal a similar polycrystalline single-phase perovskite structure. Ferroelectricity is observed in the Mn-doped and undoped BaTiO3 thin films grown under relatively high oxygen partial pressure. Ferromagnetic coupling of the Mn dopant ions, on the other hand, is only seen in Mn-doped BaTiO3 thin films prepared under low oxygen partial pressure in a wide temperature range from 5 K to 300 K, and is attributed to the enhanced exchange coupling between Mn dopants and electrons at oxygen vacancies. Our results show that the leakage current is decreased with the doped Mn, but increases the dielectric loss and decreases the dielectric constant, and the ferroelectricity is impaired. To produce ferromagnetism, oxygen vacancies are necessary, which unfortunately increase the leakage current. This confirms that the mutual interplay between the ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism can be tuned by exchange coupling of the doped-Mn and oxygen vacancies in the BaTiO3 thin films.
EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF STRESS RELAXATION IN THE PROCESS OF COLD MOLDING WITH STRAW

Abstract: In this article, five kinds of straws were used to do compressing molding experiments on stress relaxation by Electric Versatile Material Machine, with specially designed open mode equipment. According to the data from the transition stage of the compression process, regression equations with different straws were built by selective global fitting or piecewise fitting. In addition, the equations were verified by stress logarithm-time curves. A stress relaxation model of the five straws can be summarized by an expression involving the summation of exponential decay terms. This expression provides reference for reducing the specific energy consumption and increasing the pellet density.
A Practical Guide for X-Ray Diffraction Characterization of Ga(Al, In)N Alloys

Abstract: Ga(In, Al)N alloys are used as an active layer or cladding layer in light emitting diodes and laser diodes. x-ray diffraction is extensively used to evaluate the crystalline quality, the chemical composition and the residual strain in Ga(Al,In)N thin films, which directly determine the emission wavelength and the device performance. Due to the minor mismatch in lattice parameters between Ga(Al, In)N alloy and a GaN virtual substrate, x-ray diffraction comes to a problem to separate the signal from Ga(Al,In)N alloy and GaN. We give a detailed comparison on different diffraction planes. In order to balance the intensity and peak separation between Ga(Al,In)N alloy and GaN, (0004) and (1015) planes make the best choice for symmetric scan and asymmetric scan, respectively.

Abstract: Linear complexity is one of the most important indexes for measuring the randomness properties of sequences. Based on Whiteman-generalized cyclotomy, a new class of generalized cyclotomic sequences with length qp and order 2 is constructed. It is proved that the lower bound of linear complexity of the sequence is pq-p-q+1 with the proper selection of parameters p and q, and the sequence has balance property. Finally, this paper points out the method for determine linear complexity.
Charge Transport and Magnetotransport Properties of Polyimide Irradiated by 80keV Co Ions

Abstract: Charge transport properties of polyimide films implanted with 80keV Co ions at two different fluences (series I: 1.25×1017 ions/cm2, series II: 1.75×1017ions/cm2) are studied in detail. For series I, the temperature dependence of surface resistivity fits Mott's equation very well. It is on the insulating side of the insulator-metal transition (IMT). However, for series II, the temperature dependence of surface resistivity is not in agreement with Mott's equation. It is on the metallic side of IMT. The magnetotransport properties of these two series are also studied. No significant magnetoresistive effect is observed for series I at both 5K and 300K. For series II, an obvious magnetoresistive effect is observed at 5K, while there is no magnetoresistive effect at 300K. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) is applied to confirm the actual fluence for these two series.

Lattice thermal conductivity is further decreased due to the extra electron-phonon scattering mode introduced by Te doping. The maximum ZT value of 1.0 is obtained for Sr0.18Co4Sb11.95Te0.05 at 850K, which is improved by 35% compared with that of Sr0.17Co4Sb12.

A Data Compression Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks Based on an Optimal Order Estimation Model and Distributed Coding

Abstract: In many wireless sensor network applications, the possibility of exceptions occurring is relatively small, so in a normal situation, data obtained at sequential time points by the same node are time correlated, while, spatial correlation may exist in data obtained at the same time by adjacent nodes. A great deal of node energy will be wasted if data which include time and space correlation is transmitted. Therefore, this paper proposes a data compression algorithm for wireless sensor networks based on optimal order estimation and distributed coding. Sinks can obtain correlation parameters based on optimal order estimation by exploring time and space redundancy included in data which is obtained by sensors. Then the sink restores all data based on time and space correlation parameters and only a little necessary data needs to be transmitted by nodes. Because of the decrease of redundancy, the average energy cost per node will be reduced and the life of the wireless sensor network will obviously be extended as a result.
